Changing lower filters/sorts reset master filter to all

Server Version#: 1.24.0.4930
Player Version#: 1.33.0.2444-a220eae4
Whenever you are in a library (tested with music AND TV show libraries, can’t repro in Movies due to lack of second filter/sort type) and filter using the left-most drop-down from “all” to something else , then change the next filter/sort menu to the right, it resets the first filter back to “All”

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to TV Show OR music library.
  2. Go to library view, rather than recommended tab.
  3. At top left, observe first filter default is “All”.
  4. Change filter to something else (tested with “Genre”, pick any genre on the list)
  5. Change second filter/sort option:
5a. For TV Shows, change next filter/sort over from “TV shows” to “Episodes”
5b. For music, change next filter/sort over from “Artists” to “Albums”
  6. Observe that the root “Genre” filter is cleared, resetting to “All”

This can be frustrating when swapping between artist lists vs album lists, as the first filter gets reset for no reason. It takes a few extra clicks to reset the first filter again back to what you had before this.

Expected outcome:
I expect the first filter “Genre” or whatever you choose to remain when changing the second filter/sort option. Since you CAN still filter “All” and “Genre” by the same “Artist” or “Album” sub-filter/sort, it makes no sense to revert the first filter every time.

First version this behavior observed:
Current player version. I did not investigate to determine if previous players had this issue before now.

Seasons don’t have genres, nor any other properties. Therefore you cannot filter them by any criteria.
It is only logical that the filter drop-down is vanishing. Otherwise users are expecting that the filter is indeed good for something in the “season” view mode.

I agree that it is unexpected when switching from artist to album view mode.
However, there is a technical explanation:
The list of genres is different between artists and albums. The genres of an artist itself are stored totally independent from this artist’s albums.

I apologize about the choice of “season”, where “episode” works as I planned it to. I will correct that in the post.

It does make sense that there could be different genres for artists and albums. And looking back, I do notice that “genre” has more options when I am in one mode vs the other (artist vs album), but the way the selections are ordered seems counter-intuitive. I almost feel like it should be the other way around then, allowing to sort by artist/album in the first drop down, and then applying a filter to THAT list of a certain genre.

As for my own collection, I am overriding the automatic application of genre using metadata. Thus the genre for artist and for albums in a particular case match up. At the very least, if the “genre” filter is still valid when going between artist sort and album sort, it shouldn’t clear out the selection.
