Good afternoon all.
I am considering a nvidia shield pro to run my plex media server. With external hard drives plugged in.
I currently have the server on my pc with the player being the samsung TV app.
Besides the obvious power consumption benefits is there anything anyone can think of as to why this is a good idea?
Or is it a waste of money if it’s working fine now?
Thanks in advance for your opinions
Howdy - other than saving wear and tear on your laptop and gaining the convenience of having a dedicated server you might now gain much. I used to run on the old Shield Pro and I could comfortably stream to three devices IF there was no transcoding. It is best to format your videos to match your playback hardware if you have a less powerful server. I say that reluctantly as I would want the highest quality videos I can get and get a playback device to match. If you are happy with your set up I wouldn’t change it and are you saving power if your laptop is on most of the time anyway? (:
