Chaning mount point for external HDD in FSTAB without having to rebuild database or local cache

Hi,

I’m using PMS ver 1.18.3.2129 on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS.

I have an external HDD I use for the media library that’s currently mounted under /media. I want to change the mount point under FSTAB because there’s a known issue where the partial library scan won’t work for anything mounted under that folder. That’s because of the way Gnome/Nautilus manages ACLs for /media. More details here: Partial Scan not working

I have a fairly large music library and I add to it regularly. One way of making my way through the stuff is organizing Albums by date added.

The question is: can I change the mount point on the HDD and not lose the local db/cached metadata or anything that might indicate the “date added” for the media files I have in the library?

This would probably imply I remove and re-add the libraries under the new location the external HDD is mounted under. I’m wary of doing that because Plex will treat everything as new and reset all the counters and metadata.

Thanks.

If you want to be absolutely sure, you might have to do this: [HowTo] Plex database modification - Moving media the right/wrong way

Thanks for then quick replies!

Will follow the procedure on the official docs for now. Fingers crossed.

Make a backup copy of the primary database file first.

@OttoKerner, I will. On further reading, it looks like directly editing the db is endorsed by more people. I’ll go with that instead.

You don’t have to edit the database… Read further down that thread (post 38, I think)… There is an easier way that is shown…

Changing the mount point is equivalent to moving the media.
