Chapters Thumbnails stopped being generated around 7/18

My library consists of M4V files I have converted from MKV files using HandBrake (currently v1.1.2 (2018090500) - 64bit). Although my M4V’s are obviously created over time with a mix of HB versions.

I don’t know exactly when but sometime around 7/18 plex stopped generating chapter thumbnails or using the chapter info from the M4V files (which all have chapters in them).

The last movie I added that chapters worked on was done on 7/18.

The next movie I added on 7/19 and subsequent movies do not seem to have chapter thumbnails or even chapters themselves to select. I have tried using both the Web Player and Apple TV and neither shows any chapters. The same M4V files played using VLC Media Player (3.0.4) have chapters available. I have also examined the M4V files with MediaInfo and I can see the Chapter Markers and Names in the M4V files.

All movies prior to 7/18 seem to be fine and have chapter thumbnails available and displayed in both the Web and Apple TV players.

Server is Windows 10 Pro (v 1803 build 17134.285) based. I can’t think of any changes I’ve made except for several Plex Server updates since 7/18.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I’ve had something similar:

I realized after I posted this that I haven’t added anything new to my Plex library but mpg files so it may be that my server also isn’t generating video preview thumbnails for any file.

I just installed Plex and have been very impressed. I got everything working pretty much like I would expect with the exception of these missing thumbnails. I did see a notification in the Activity section in the top right that said it was creating thumbnails, but they do not show up in the chapter list:

COOL… deleting the library and re-adding it did the trick. Very cool stuff here, team. :slight_smile:

I have the same problem of not generating anymore chapter thumbnails, and it stoped also to create cover thumbnails for certain kinds of home videos. It is as if it cannot get a snapshot form the video file, while it used to do so until last week. My server is Version 1.12.1.4885 on Odroid XU4 (Linux/ Debian)…

Anyone ever find a solution for this. My movies stopped generating chapter thumbnails around the same time. I may have a file with any number of chapters, but only one chapter, usually the last one, shows up. Movies I added before 7/19/18 properly generated thumbnails for all the chapters and all the chapters showed up. This is frustrating!!
