I just recently bought a Chromecast Ultra and have the issue when video (HEVC and HDR/UHD) becomes some distorted green thing (although audio works). Could be cool if you’re watching The Matrix maybe. Kidding aside, it makes Plex useless with Chromecast Ultra and Android when watching HDR. It works when using the Samsung Plex App though and it works of course when transcoding.
This is tiresome and annoying.
Actually getting tired with the lack of Chromecast support from the Plex team. Been a plex pass user now for oh, 7 years, my father for longer and the only issue We’ve ever really consistently had over the years is with how Plex uses the CC and CCU. Are you sure you’re focusing in the right areas? because this should be a priority fix for you guys, seriously.
People should NOT have to change their xml profiles themselves guys, and now as you can see, that doesn’t even solve the issue many are having here anymore. Look all over your forums over the past few years and see how many have had to though.
I have a CC Ultra that can technically handle stuff that plex is for some reason deciding needs transcoding (h264 to h264), it’s honestly disappointing. Please get on this, it needs fixing.

This is getting crazy. We’re talking about a 5+ year old codec on a 3 year old device and Plex still can’t tell out of the box that it’s supported and send it without transcoding? This is killing my Plex server on a regular basis because it’s not running on hardware designed to handle transcoding of h.265. Do I really have to update my server hardware because Plex can’t configure the server correctly?
I’m confused about this, I can even play 10 bit HEVC via my Chromecast Ultra with my Plex server, which is running on hardware which can’t transcode at all. I have issues with level 5 AVC videos, which should work but don’t.
Update: It seems my profile is extended to support additional codecs from I presume the Android client. The support for H264 level 5.2 is missing there too though.
At any stage are you going to fix Plex and CC/CCU unless its H264 it buffers and wont play , would maybe a joint effort with Google & CC so you can fix this for everyone they sell lots of these with your name all over it yet no joint work around the rubbish system it has, FIX IT.
Not sure if I have the same issue but I can not play 1080p HVEC videos on my chromecast ultra smoothly. I am getting 4-5fps.
Tried changing the Chromecast.xml to this: https://github.com/ambroisemaupate/plex-profiles/blob/master/Chromecast.xml But no change.
