I currently experiencing clipping with classical music recorded with flac format. My setup is the following: plexamp on rpi3 into Topping E30 into Azur 851a into Kef KS50.
plexamp settings are:
Loudness Leveling: On
Preamp 0db
Limiter: On
I do not get any clipping when using a standard bluetooth adapter from my phone (also using plexamp) into the same amp.
Does anyone have any advice or ideas what might be causing it or any solutions as to how to stop it?
If this is not the right forum to ask on - if anyone could point me to the right place that would be great.
recommend trying with loudness leveling disabled … classical music often has low average loudness combined with high peaks … so when loudness leveling is enabled, gain will be applied and the peaks will get pushed too high (the 0dB preamp setting is for additional gain beyond the reference target described in the Plexamp settings)
Thanks - I have fiddled with these before especially in the early day of the headless solution. I will try again.
Do you know if I would need to restart the player or the play session for these setting to work correctly or whether, when changed, they will apply instantly within song?
It now seems that if I cast to plexamp headless on the RPi from say my phone (which has these options enabled, loundess leveling, limiter) the clipping will return.
It seems like the options on the casting device are transferred to the RPi (all be it temporarily). Is this intended behavior?
Not that I’m aware of; you need to configure the settings of your headless instance separately. You can do this via port 32500. I.e. http://[your rpi ip address]:32500.
Thanks for reply, I am already configuring the instance this way. It just seemed that when I transferred a play session from my phone onto the headless instance it would start to clip.
For now it seems to be working OK so maybe I was mistaken.
