Collections in Android TV client changed from thumbnail grid to side scrolling

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#: 8.6.0.20130

The collections view has changed from a vertical scrolling thumbnail grid to a horizonal scrolling single row of thumbnails.

Instead of many movies, I can now only see 6 at once, and each button press advances by a single movie, instead of 1 row of movies in the old grid layout.

This is a severe limitation and step backward for navigating through collections.

Why was this changed? It makes no sense.

I had to resort to using collections (as Plex refuse to add the option to view movie info within playlists), and now you’ve effectively killed collections as a useable option too.

Just updated and cannot confirm what you report.
On the collections tab, all my collections are displayed in regular grid view / as a poster wall.
Inside a collection, all movies are displayed as poster wall too.

It’s only if I show a movie’s main page that’s part of a collection, that I can get to a hub named “Movies in XYZ collection” where the items of that collection are displayed in a single side-scrolling line.

Behavior is pretty much like it used to be for me.

He is not talking about the tab but when opening an individual collection from the tab

This is correct, I’m talking about when you actually go into a collection.

Oh, I hadn’t even seen the TV change yet. Yeah this is a real pain, especially for seasons with many episodes. Even vertical scrolling would have been better.

I bought a Plex pass a week ago, but with these regressive changes I wish I hadn’t, unfortunately.

I just noticed this now as well! So frustrating if you have quite a few films in the collections.

Hello,
same change here on Android TV
collections now appear as a sliding horizontal list and not as a grid
I made a lot of series collections with a lot of series on each! The sliding bar is not very practical! Do you think the update will change that?
THX.

I have no idea. Unfortunately, this is being ignored by Plex Staff (at least in the forum).

It would be nice to have some kind of acknowledgement that developers will fix this broken UI.

Especially since we’ve paid for this product. I expect much better service than this (i.e. any at all).

I posted about this and they say they are putting it back the way it was (but its been a couple weeks now)

Thanks, hadn’t seen this.

Im canceling my plex pass if they don’t fix the side scrolling it s***s with large collections

As of 10/12 this is still completely unusable, still showing collections as scrollers instead of a grid.

What’s odd is that the posters are displayed correctly in collections for “Other Video” libraries, when they are not displayed correctly when browsing the library as a whole.

29/10, still no fix. This is beyond ridiculous. I’m seriously regretting my purchase now, if this is the level of support we can expect.

Count me as one of the VERY unhappy with the new GUI interface on Android TV, and wanting the Grid view back ASAP. I have one TV series with 7 seasons… 2 of which have 360+ episodes each. Do the developers who made this terrible decision for the new interface try scrolling horizontally, ONE by ONE on a TV remote through 360+ episodes? Roll back the horrible change already, or at the very least, give us the option to configure/choose which view WE want on our TV screens.

Yeah, this makes large collections VERY difficult to navigate. I hope this gets resolved soon. Horizontal scrolling doesn’t make sense for large collections. Please bring back the vertical wall as an option please.

Also very unhappy about this. I have some collections with 75-250 movies. Really need to see the collection’s contents like I could before this change (entire page, vertical scrolling).

Please put back the previous collection view on both android and fire tv apps. Or, as a compromise, maybe you could just switch to the full page view if the collection contains more than 12 (?) items (not more than two horizontal pages please).

Give us the option to choose how we want it to look! As my friend Rian, who’s an engineer, likes to say: “One usability study…” I mean, seriously, this change was not/could not have been made for ease of use. Either give us the option to change it back or, at the very least, explain your reasoning.

For Halloween, I was trying to pick a movie from my Horror collection with a friend, and it was a pain in the ass. I only have 40 or 50 movies in that collection–my larger collections with over 100 are now a joke to try and scroll through.

I find Plex developers to be pretty responsive, generally, and I know they’re managing several different platforms, but some response from the staff would be appreciated on this. It’s ridiculous.

Now apply this same fix to the equally terrible Movie playlists.
