Comedy Central Channel Update

I got familiar with Channels trying to get Food Network/HGTV to work, when what I needed to do was downgrade from .28 to .22.  That said, Comedy Central didn't work on either of them so I took the liberty of fixing it.

To use it, simply install the Comedy Central channel then download the following file:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0xtsC_S4ImuNGRIVDlNcTRvTjQ/edit?usp=sharing

Just replace __init__.py file with this one in the 'Plex Media Server\Plug-ins\Comedy Central.bundle\Contents\Code'.  That directory is under AppData\Local by default.

It will get overwritten next time the Channel updates unless I submit it to be official...

Edit: Please note this is my first ever channel modification so don't crucify me if I'm doing dumb stuff.  I have a programming background but have never used python before.

The one thing I would suggest is creating a Github account.  I makes it easier because you can fork the original, the guys can look at your code, and see the changes and if there is something they can incorporate, it is easier for them to do it.

BTW, what is your PMS on? What OS do you use? Since you are having issues with channels and the PMS update, you may want to post something in that particular PMS section of the forum about trouble with channels on your specific OS with latest PMS to see if others are having similar issues. It helps you figure out if this is an issue with that particular OS, so the developers can look into it in future updates or if it may be something unique about your computer system or setup.

I'm running Windows 7 x64 SP1 on an i5 750 @ 3.8Ghz with 8GB DDR800.  On .28, RMTP failed, on .22 it works fine.  Yes, I've posted in the Windows forum.

I have a similar setup, but no problems so far. Unfortunately, there are so many variations in setup and systems lt of times it hard to tell exactly what little change they make can cause an issue. I had a similar situation with 9.7 when it first came out.  I used 9.6 and kept trying new versions. It was about three months before they released a version of 9.7 that did not cause me issues with channels.

Update:

I just hit me that maybe the reason I am not having issues is because I use Win7 Pro or because I have not updated my service packs in quite awhile.

BTW, here is a post with a good tip for how to keep your tweaked channels from being overwritten. http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/66292-disabling-channel-auto-update/. I am trying to figure out how to do this right now.

By they way, I did create github account and submitted a PULL request for my updates.  Haven't been accepted yet AFAIK.

Since my pull request still hasn't been accepted, here's a link to my Github with more Comedy Central channel updates.

https://github.com/bfreshour/ComedyCentral.bundle/blob/master/Contents/Code/__init__.py

Duh, I see the errors you are talking about now. I think I may have been looking at The Daily Show and not the Comedy Central channel. My mind sometimes stutters on me.

A pull request can take awhile. Especially since as you said above this is your "first ever channel modification." They have to have the time to look through the code and see if it needs any tweaking. So it is best to link your Github here until they have the time to review everything.

My Comedy Central app quit working a month ago or so. So I removed it and tried to reinstall it, only to discover that it did not exist anymore on the list of channels.

Is there still a working app out there for Plex, and if so how can I get a copy?

Thanks!

Well, guess I posted too soon.  I just found this on the web: https://github.com/plexinc-plugins/ComedyCentral.bundle and it works great.  Not sure why this doesn't show up on the Plex "add channel" list, but I'm far from an expert here.  Thanks anyway!
