Commentary Track Unavailable In Plex

Server Version#: 1.20.0.3181 (MacOS)
Player Version#: 1.16.0.1364-da192ff7 (Plex for Mac)

I have a film in my collection that has the normal audio track and then there is an additional audio track for the commentary:

Plex does not recognize the commentary track and it is not available on any player (AppleTV, iOS, MacOS):

It works fine in other players like VLC on the Mac or Infuse on the Apple TV. Why doesn’t Plex allow me to select this audio track?

Can you provide the XML from Plex for that video? I don’t know if PMS will detect that a52 audio codec.

@MovieFan.Plex I don’t see the commentary track present in the XML: commentary-track-not-detected.zip (2.6 KB) .

A52 is the ATSC-standard name for AC3. That screenshot looks like it’s from VLC. VLC displays “A52 Audio (aka AC3) (a52 )” for tracks with Codec ID: “A_AC3”.

I would grab MKVToolnix and try to remux the file. That would copy the Video and Audio streams into a new container file, without re-encoding any of them.

Drag your source MKV onto MKVToolnix and hit Start multiplexing. Shouldn’t need to change any other MKVToolnix settings.
