Commercial Removal

Server Version#: Version 1.15.0.647
Player Version#:

After today’s server update it took 2 hours and 6 minutes to remove the commercials from a 30 minute recording. I looked at the comskip included in 1.15.0.647 and it shows as Comskip 0.82.005 public. In 1.14.1.5488 Comskip 0.82.005 donator was included.

I haven’t had any luck with plex commercial skipper.exe (comskip). I always get an error where the video file can’t be processed - one of the other Plex employees mentioned to me that this is as a result of a codec not downloading correctly. Despite reformatting the harddrive, reinstalling windows, and PMS, I still see the same behavior.

You can rename comskip.exe and replace the installed file. Just be sure to include comskip.dictionary and your comskip.ini file in the same directory as well. Good luck.

I have confirmed this on two of my servers and posted a message internally. A dev is raising a GHI for the different comskip versions.

Should I revert back to 1.14.1.5488, replace Plex Commercial Skipper.exe with the one from 1.14.1.5488 or just wait for a fix?

@johnm_ColaSC, I upgraded to 1.15.1.707 last night and this morning noticed that it been removing commercial’s for over 3 hours on a 1 hour show.

Thanks for reporting this to us. It wasn’t intentional, and the cause of the issue has been found.

The developers are working on trying to get a quick fix release to address this. No eta yet on when that might be out though.

Until a fix is released I’ve dropped Plex ‘Commercial Skipper.exe’ from 1.15.0.659 into 1.15.1.707 and all is working. Thanks for your quick response!
