Commercial Stripping... Just say no??

Honestly I’m more of a script guy and tend to opt for a nice powershell or batch script that can do all of the variable passing to comskip for an effective post-process. This is what I’m doing in Linux with another user’s contributed shell script.

Any idea where I can find that code or would you share as well? I’m running Ubuntu it would be great to have. Thanks!

So I am hoping that Plex will (re)gain EDL support…

Yeah, me too! Funny how this was a standard feature back when I used SageTV, but so many don;t know about it…

Until then, the Chapter Agent shows promise of importing EDL files to chapters as a Plex Agent…

Now to get the word out to have some forks from some better coders than I…

Well I have given up with automated commercial skipping.
Not very accurate and disappointing.

I’ve gone to manual commercial skipping for media I want to keep.
Just using Windows 10 Movie Maker.

Works just fine for me.

I use a script written by @bjs1400 called comchap. I use the comchap and not the comcut script.
Comchap just adds chapters to the video file. Comcut will actually cut the video file according the the chapters it finds. The choice is yours which you use.

The script is located on github.

I agree with you, ThePaladinTech. My though was to try it and figure it out first, then buy. So trying to take it for a “test drive”. But I can’t get it to do anything. I know it has to be a settings issue.

It also has seemed to mess with the seeking ability of the recordings. I got rather use to skipping about 90 sec to get back to the show. Now if I try it throws the hole shows time segment into chaos.

Example, I was watching an hour long show, after doing multiple skips. When I got to the end, Plex player said the show was only 18 min. This happens when I skip multiple times in a row without it being able to adjust after each skip.

So, if I can’t get it to cut segments, then it’s more of a hassle than what its worth.

I think you need to insert the chapters. trying to find a way to share my settings, or where I got my settings from. -not saying they are the best but it would be a start for ya

Attached is a print out of my one-note doc that has my settings as of december. I’ve probably tweeked them since then, and the comments are more for me and my brother. but it they help I’m glad.

ThePaladinTech- I’ve got MCE set up and I am using your suggestions to start. I have a few issues. One, is MCE goes into a standby mode and has to be resumed for the conversions to begin. Is there a way for Plex to initiate MCE to start converting? Two, the evening news converts in under a few minutes, but Outfront (an hour long news program) takes over 4 hours. Why the difference? is it the show, hardware limitations, file conversion type or setting, or something else?

I currently have it set to MKV unprocessed, but could really do MKV, AVI, or TS. Those are the formats that work best with my smart tv apps.

If you use Post Processing Script in Plex DVR Settings Plex will send a completed show to mcebuddy for processing.

I’ll try that but I can’t find the script file that you referenced, Is it one you created?

I used the guide found at the link below. The guide directs you to a site to download a bat file that contains the logic for the Post Processing. The author of the guide and the bat file uses that site to track how many people are downloading his file. Be VERY CAUTIOUS on the Zippyshare site when downloading the bat file, do not click on any other links other than the download. The first time I clicked on the link it opened a new window wanting me to update chrome, don’t click the update link. It has been brought up numerous times that the Zippyshare site seems to be a malware site but the author has not found another site and does not allow his bat file to be shared on the forum.

I’ve played with comskip for a while now, at least getting different settings files to work.

I’ve given up on it. I’m not going to manually watch a show to trim commercials to watch the show once without them. That’s what the fast forward button is for.

I’m considering, for my purposes, this dead in the water.

I’m all for cutting commercials in media in your Plex library.

I just started using it and it seems to be getting it fairly accurately. I just have to keep tweaking it. My problem is one minute Plex will display the show information (poster art) the next it doesn’t, or it is put in a file structure that is not accessible for cataloging in a Plex library.

Yes, my family is still on SageTV for TV because of how it handles commercials. No risk of losing part of the video permanently if comskip screwed up a transition. Auto-skipping without ever touching the remote. We have guests visit and when they leave, they’ll be like…so…how can you make my tv auto-skip commercials like yours…?

Here’s to hoping this will happen in the future… Without knowing the details on why it is so difficult to implement, it is hard to say why/when it isn’t already!

It seems so trivial…
