Common watchlist/Share watchlist with friends

I love the new Watchlist feature, amazingly well done guys!
I was thinking of some ways to make it even better, by extending the functionality in one or more of the following similar ways:

-Make it possible to share the playlist with other friends in the same Plex server
-Make it possible to choose having a common watchlist, where all(or some) persons from the same server can add entries to the watchlist

It is my understanding the Watchlist is tied to individual accounts, not the server. Therefore if one person marked a show or movie as watched on a shared Watchlist, it would probably show up as “Watched” on everyone else’s Watchlist.

A more practical solution might be to create a Playlist within the Watchlist and share the Playlist instead.

Another solution might be to offer a “Recommend to friends” option when content is chosen, perhaps near the “Marked as played” button. This could be a new row on the home screen, “Recommended content” where users can then decide to either

  • Add to Watchlist
  • Start watching
  • Dismiss

Or, a third option might be to make it more social, which I already know will divide the community before I even explain it. Users are given the option to share what they have added to their playlist. Their friends have a feed on their home screen showing “Recently added to a friend’s Watchlist”. In order to satisfy the community, this would need to be “opt-in” and completely customizable to decide what to share, with whom, and when.

Nice depth on your descriptions, I thought you were one of the devs at first :sweat_smile:.

Yes it is most likely tied to accounts right now. My idea was it to have the choice to make a (separate?) common watchlist shared with several accounts in the server, and then the additions would be shared, but the “Mark as watched” still individual.

I’m probably asking for too much since Watchlist is such a new feature.

All your other suggestions for potential features are great, you could write a separate post if you feel like it.

Would love the ability to share watchlist with friends. So many screenshots just to share it with friends lol
