Hi,
I am ignoring all of the tags because this issue occurs on any Plex Web session running on Chromium-based browsers as they enforce a policy of loading only https assets (hsts)…
So there was a thread opened by someone in 2022 - Live TV & DVR > Guide > Channel icons failing with XMLTV feed
And I came across because I can verify the same thing.
There’s no way to obtain email support so I am hoping that a Plex Inc employee would be decent enough to care for my bug report and see if this can be fixed because honestly, it’s unusable for me using Plex Web and in many devices it’s all I can load as app installs aren’t allowed (Chrome OS, Work computer with Group Policies), etc.
So the issue is that Chromium-based browsers (the majority nowadays) don’t load HTTP assets so the channel icons/picons don’t load when using XMLTV from something like TVHeadend (a popular software tuner for servers that you can use HdHomeRun or Sat>IP tuners to manage your channels, etc). It manages EPG updates, channel mappings, the works. And it generates a XMLTV with Channel and Guide data all nicely mapped! So when adding this to Plex via something like a software called Antennas, it appears as a HDHomeRun tuner and it works beautifully. On Plex apps the channel icons appear, but on the browser they don’t because Chrome expects the originating server to push files via https but as it’s running on a local server, the xmltv URLs are in http and there’s no way to change this, meaning Chrome will never load the channel icons and all I’ll see is a guide full of blank entries!!!
Plex has made an oversight at best, as with the lack of channel icons it should load at the very least the channel name as text labels, but it doesn’t. So the guide appears like this - and with over 300 channels it’s IMPOSSIBLE to find what is what, apart from maybe guessing from guide descriptions but not all channels have detailed guides…
PLEASE FIX! We are almost entering 2025 and that post was done in 2022. Apparently you can proxy the channel icons but why aren’t your developers implementing the suggested solution? Don’t you people care about your customers? You get paid subscriptions to ignore your customers? Nice and friendly business model there…
It is a complaint and it’s a warranted one. Please fix this, I pay subscription for Live Tv and so it’s imperative that it is functional for me, and I assume for all the other subscribers that pay you specifically for live tv functionality.
Ignoring such a crap bug that makes the guide unusable on plex web in our use case shows a certain level of contempt, that’s truly how I feel about your treatment, Plex Inc. Please fix this and proxy the http icons!
Caption: on the column on the far left, no channel icons are loaded and not even channel text names, making it impossible to use Live TV on Plex Web if loading XMLTV from the local network
