Thread started in 2016 and zero response from Plex. Probably our fault for not noticing it didn’t have the feature request flag.
We all want the ability to configure when Plex stops playing. Also that pressing play resets that number and doesnt’e just stop again after the next episode.
It would also be best if Plex didn’t then ask if you wanted to override your current list with a new list as you are only asking it to play the next episode in the list you expected and Plex interrrupted.
Currently if I watch 2.5 episodes whjile at the PC then sofa it will stop playing. If I go to the PC and hit play it will play only the next episode.
If I go to the series and hit play on the next episode it will play the next 3 but only aftyer falsy accusing me of changing my playlist.
Yepp I agree with this. I was using my Samsung TV app to play Plex videos then was gifted an Nvidia Shield TV but will only play 2 episodes before it just stops. Please fix this.
I have exactly the opposite problem but a setting like this would fix it for me too.
For me I WANT it to stop after a configured number of episodes plays, currently using (at least the XBOX One app) you start a show and it will play forever with autoplay on, however playing at night if I fall asleep I don’t want it playing all night long for numerous reasons, and would like to be able to have the convience of auto play next episode but have it do like Netflix does and prompt me every so often to see if I’m still watching/awake. But as others said this should be configurable, so I can set it to the number of episodes, or number of hours, or none as others here would like.
It’s not a per episode issue but a time issue. 3 hour I think as I can watch 5 30 minute episides, 6 if lucky, 45 mnute episides are in the 3 pr run but 1 hout episode can stop after each one.
We need to find from Plex if this a server out client issue. On that note it wouls be good if abyone from Plex support had reaponded.
I made the original thread way back in 2016. I didn’t tag it as a feature request, because it didn’t start out working that that way, and I thought it was a bug in an update patch.
I really would love for this to be fixed these almost 4 years later.
A configurable setting would allow the people who want an auto shutoff to have it, and those of us who want continuous play to have the option. As for which is the default, it probably makes sense to leave the default at whatever duration Netflix uses, which is I think what they do now.
I think it works like it used to on my NVidia Shield because I’ve fallen asleep with sitcom reruns playing and I think they were still going when I woke up (no setting to choose though) - but I don’t know how the web player works these days. I’ve been having problems with the web player for a long while now and haven’t been using it anymore.
Thanks for the reply and details of the long history of this.It is definnately people want some control over and has been raised multiple times for the last 4 years to absolutely no response.
Just a wee note as to whether this was a plex server issue or with the client, or an agreed server/client standard would be nice, and if it’s even on the roadmap to add options to control something this simple that has been bugging so many people for so many years from both sides of the original request…
I just updated my TV app and now it’s doing this… Before it would play entire shows non stop… Like I could let it play and it would play 7 seasons of a show and never stop… It was perfect.
Now it stops after 3 episodes. This is ignorant Nad needs to be fixed.
IF YOU ADD A “FEATURE” ADD AN OPTION TO TURN THE FEATURE OFF!
just cause you think it’s a good idea doesn’t mean everyone will. Fix it or I’m leaving plex forever. Been a plex pass member for 4 years. And I will drop plex in a heartbeat if they keep forcing features to dictate how I watch my shows. It’s a media library first and foremost not a streaming service.
I would like this feature as well. I have a Roku app, and it shuts off after 3 episodes. I’d love to be able to control the timeout. 2/4/6/unlimited hours would be good options.
Would like to see a customizeable feature as well. I have to play shows all night to control nightmares from PTSD and would like to be able to keep playing. I have to use ancient clients that wont be supported very long and cant update to newer streaming tech because of this.
Ours stops after 3. Its is annoying and Im honestly looking into other apps at this point. It is ridiculous I cant watch more than 3 episodes in a row before having to manually play every f-ing damn episode. I mean why even have playlists as an option? Who the f uses a playlist of just THREE Songs/Videos?
This has been an issue many have complained about for 3+ YEARS!!! This is ridiculous at this point nothing has been done. Not even ONE damn update. Like I said, Im looking for new media application at this point. Im done with Plex!
If you just press play to do next it will do one at a time after that but if you go back to the season view and play the next episode from there it will do another 3. It’s not a 3 episode limit it is that auto-continue stops after 2 hours. I do think it is rude for it to give you a warning that you are breaking your list when you pres to play the actual next item on your list.
For me, play next is completely broken now playing from plex web n Chrome and casting to ChromeCast and I only get one episode at a time.
Firesticks were going for half price breifly so I got one of them. The plex app is not as easy to navigate as the web app but for playing through a sereies it is great. Doesn’t seem to have the 2 hour limit, time between episodes down from 15s to 10s and a wee remote I can take to the couch to time skip past end credits and also use the new Skip Intro function on screen.
This is the one and only reason my wife refuses to use Plex. We have a massive collection on it but she needs the TV to sleep at night and since it won’t play continuously she has written it off entirely. I actually use Plex Media Player as it does not have this issue but since the TV in the bedroom is an android TV I have to use the playstore app which sucks.
