Change "Continuous playback" To "Stop after 6 Episodes"

I am so over the continuous playback feature. It does not work. I want to play my shows until I decide to stop them and not have to press play every 5 or 6 episodes. I like to let plex play while I sleep and have tv shows play all night.

I have found that if I shuffle a playlist that I can achieve this, but I have to let them play out of order. The playlist feature DID play right through when you just pressed play, but not anymore, now they do the same thing as if you just pressed play from an episode. It will even show the “up next” screen in-between episodes and then stop after 6 episodes. It is so aggravating.

Now that I am done complaining about a great product, I would like to make my suggestion on how to fix this feature.

Instead of being able to choose “Continuous Playback” from settings, it should be changed to “Only play 6 episodes” where it only plays 6 episodes at a time, otherwise the default is set to just play until you stop it, or it runs out of episodes, whichever comes first.

I would like to mention I have been a Lifetime member since 2018 and using plex since 2015 and believe in the product and think it is absolutely great. I have a large library and love being able stream it around my house using the Plex UI instead of trying to decide what to play while looking through the video folders on my pc. I think this feature to play forever is what is missing for us to get the full effect of the binging experience.

There’s an existing feature suggestion asking for a so called “burst play” option where you tell Plex how many episodes you want to stream.

Add a Burst Play option to the TV Show play screen, to play a pre-set number of episodes and then stop. I know you can hit play on a season or even a whole show to start continuous play, but for people using roku (or some other streaming devices) this causes a problem if you use a sleep timer. Similarly there’s the long-standing “continuous autoplay” suggestion that partially overlaps with your suggestion.

I would like to be able to continuously play a playlist or television show without plex stopping. I find it perplexing that I cannot have plex play in the background without stopping after three episodes.
