Constant Buffering and Errors Streaming Movies Remotely Outside my Home

Trying to stream movies on my IPhone from outside my home network and continue to get the following yellow ribbon after a few minutes of buffering.

“Your connection to the server is not safe enough to stream this video. Check your network or try a lower quality”

Inside my network movies stream just fine.

Movies are ripped as an MP4 using normal resolution in handbreak.
Server is a true server. 16Gb ram, Server 2012 OS, Processor is a Intel Xeon E3-2141 - Scores a 10000 for Passmark
Home internet connection is 20Mbps
Wifi I am streaming from outside the network is 84.10Mbps with a 6.79Mbps upload

Music seems ok streaming outside my home network but Movies will not. What should I be looking at to resolve this?

What is your upload from home? What bitrate is the file?

You should also be looking at what the client(s) are asking for. PMS first looks at the video and audio information of the file. Next it looks at what the client wants and can handle. At present, it does not take upload speeds or other clients into consideration. If you have a 25 Mpbs video file with 1.5 Mbps audio and the client asks for ‘Original’, PMS will try to do it.

My home connection is 20 down and 1mbps up.

the bit rate is:

Video 1116kbps
Audio 160kbps

total 1276k

ChuckPa. Im a complete noob and trying to learn, your explanation is not clear to me. can you tell me where I am looking to see what the clients are asking for?

So your 1276kbps file converts to 1.2Mbps.
Your upload is 1Mbps so your remote client (iPhone) needs a quality setting below 1Mbps in the Plex app like 720 kbps

I’d say that with that upload speed you’d be much better off with syncing your files instead - https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201082477-Quick-Guide-to-Mobile-Sync

That’s your problem. 1Mb up is not enough for anything.
