Constant buffering

I’ve never had this happen before but all of the sudden anyone who I’ve shared my server with is getting constant buffering when trying to play anything on my server. I haven’t changed any settings nor done anything with the mac mini my server is on other than move it down a shelf. It’s hardlined into my router, I’ve tried changing ports and ethernet cables and neither have fixed the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Here’s the TL;DR.

A bug crept in between 1.3.4 and 1.4.1 and was missed. We caught it and fixed it (both) this week. The fix is headed out to you. The version with that fix is in QA now.

It primarily effects remote streaming. If you’re having other buffering problems, Please go to settings - server - help - download logs . Grab that ZIP file, attach it here and I’ll take a look.

Also, please go to the media which stutters… Get Info - View XML. Paste that XML (highlight the XML and use “Code” paragraph formatting to protect it)

I appreciate the response I’m on 1.5.1.3520 though. Does that make a difference?

Yes… 1.5.1 is also effected. To help you and be definitive (there are many causes of stuttering), I need to know what you’re trying to do.

This is why I asked for the information above ^^

I apologize when I first looked at your message I didn’t see you asking for those things. Attached is the log. I’m not getting any other issues other than the one I mentioned. I’m trying to get you the XML’s but when I hit view xml it takes me to a blank page and the only thing I can copy is in the URL window if that’s what you’re looking for I apologize some of this is clearly new to me…

to get the XML… open a text editor… copy/paste it there. Save the file as a .txt file and attach that one.

This forum is a bit :grimace: at times

Here you go, again sincerely appreciate the help

As I look through your logs, I see you have enough CPU to do the transcoding (some 4x), I also see multiple streams active.

In light of the recent discovery with remote streaming limitations ( a now fixed bug), could you be bumping up against this and / or against your upload speed limit ?

Based on what I see… you’re bumping the bug. If you’d like… We can hold this here and see what we get with the upcoming update? (VERY shortly)

I don’t think I’m bumping up against my upload limit as I’ve never had an issue before. I’ll wait on the update and let you know if that changes anything.

I just updated the server and I’m still getting this same issue.

Would you mind sharing what your measured (speedtest.net) measured rates are and what your ISP should provide?
We’ll start there and approach from two perspectives since every report I’ve seen today has shown 1.5.2 addresses the network streaming problem to remote clients and clients on slower wifi connections (G-band / 2.4 Ghz N band)

I’m getting in between 177-219mbps download and 10-21upload ran the test several times just to be safe. I have time warner ultimate 300 their highest option available.

Both of those MKV files are low bitrate 264 files. What client is playing these that need to transcode?

Tested on Iphone, multiple Roku devices, PS4. All showed constant buffering. It’s not limited to those two files either it’s happening on anything attempted to be played from a remote connection
