I have set up plex pass with HDhomerun extend. I am unable to watch the recorded content. I can see the shows I recorded on my Amazon Fire TV box, Iphone, and laptop, but I cannot play them. The Fire TV says there was a problem connecting to the server. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?
Can you play your other content (movies, music, etc)? Are all DVR recordings causing the problem?
I have not tried anything else. I specifically chose Plex for the DVR and its ability to stream to multiple devices at home and away. I can’t play the content on my Iphone or on my laptop either. FYI I am using a 4TB Seagate personal cloud with the Plex app installed on it. Could it be an issue with my router or my anti virus?
The Seagate Personal Cloud devices do not support transcoding. Most Plex clients cannot direct play DVR content and needs the content to be transcoded. Unfortunately, Plex DVR is not going to be very useful for you since you are running PMS on that Seagate device.
That makes sense. Thank you for your help.
You can avoid this problem if you had a HdHomeRun Prime, which as it’s own built-in transcoder.
Ok. What if I use a laptop to run the Plex media server and use the Seagate NAS just for storage? Would I still have the same issue with transcoding?
I cannot use the HDHomerun Prime because I am using an OTA.

Transcoding would work in that setup.
