OK after long thought process I have come up with a work around so we can have continuous Autoplay longer than two hours. Here is the solution . Go into your TV Library and pick a show that you would like to have. Add that show to a Playlist. Now when you open that show via the playlist, it won’t stop until you stop it or it runs out of shows.
Yea…I make all kinds of playlists…that is definitely a workaround. But, on Roku, I can even get the playlist to start over when it gets finished with the last video…I swear it’s weird why Plex works so much better on Roku than the other players. I’ve tried it on Android and HATED it. The repeat function on the OSD (even if enabled) absolutely would not work. I kept testing over and over until I finally gave up and went back to Roku.
Hey, guys…instead of making this an argument with “hey here’s some janky workaround you can do - just make playlists in advance for every show you want to play continuously!” you add a clear and simple option to disable the stupid 2hr timer?
There are literally zero cases when I have told a media player to play continuously, but want it to stop before I take explicit action to tell it to stop.
why the f is it so hard to add a simple checkbox and do a if setting.2hstop: pause wtfff.
ur agument with falling asleep ppls is now outdated with the sleep timer which should be added years ago instead of this stupid hardcoded 2h timer.
my 20y old tv had a sleep timer and not a hardcoded timer.
Very true…but I will stay this (granted, this was a while back when I tried) but on Firestick or my Vizio TV Plex apps, nothing would auto play. You always would get the 2 hour timer whether it be from watching a playlist OR even if the OSD auto play was ticked to loop all…I would still get the timer. This may have changed…or maybe it was a bug. But I tried EVERYTHING and got the 2 hour timer every time…I gave up and just stuck with Roku.
Falling asleep is a major reason I want to be able to disable it. I put something on to fall asleep to. Waking up in the middle of the night to the “press OK to continue” screen is incredibly annoying.
I am so fed up with PLEX.
All I want is to be able to watch “MY” television shows without having to babysit the app (clicking for next episode/or interacting with it after 2 hours). It is the most annoying thing in the world for me (First World Problems) to have to click ok to continue to watch something. This is a reason why I stopped my subscription services (HULU/Disney+/Netflix) because they decide to babysit me. The only service that I still subscribe to is HBO/MAX because they don’t babysit your watching habits. If I want to play 10 seasons of the Big Bang Theory, or watch every available episode of Rick and Morty. I can to my hearts content without having to interact with the app after starting (unless it crashes).
SOOOOOO why is it so hard to have the ability to watch MY CONTENT how I want to watch it. If I want to watch my 1200+ episodes of Dark Shadows continuously I should be able to do so without being interrupted every 2 hours, if the autoplay even decides to work on my Sony TV. The work arounds being offered don’t work and honestly aren’t productive at all. The Plex employees are hit and miss and these fixes (updates) are horrible. Like we aren’t going to work on the autoplay issues that many users want. We are going to fix what we want like changing Autoplay to Auto Play.
However, there is a silver lining to this issue, one that I wouldn’t have ever considered if Plex was as good as former fanboys said it was which was learn about other options available like Plex (Emby/Jellyfin). So I learn about these programs and downloaded them and started to use them.
And what I have learned is that PLEX suckssssssssssss. I have been using Jellyfin to continuously watch my Television shows for the past two weeks. I just finished watching Season 8 of Bob’s Burgers, and not an issue to be had. I clicked on TV Shows, clicked on Bob’s Burgers, clicked Season 8, clicked play, and Jellyfin played the episodes without a 15 second delay between episodes, without asking me every 2 hours to continue to play, no needing to create a playlist, or other evasive work arounds. JELLYFIN just worked. So why can’t Plex do the same?
So thank you Plex for allowing me to find out about JELLYFIN. Once I finish getting my subtitles together and working perfectly within Jellyfin I can kiss PLEX goodbye for good.
Why the problem exists when the community has complained about it for many, at the price of the plex subscription, developers could still make an effort especially since it is just a line of time code and put 0.
Almost 3 years. For real. At least let people set the variable for timer in UI and not in fat .js
Some liberal Plex developer felt this was a way to save electricity or something…I don’t pay for a plex pass to have liberals make decisions for me. I use to play episodes 24/7 in the background, purpose, when I sleep, I need noise, when I’m awake, I like some noise…you know the liberal saying “my body my choice” well my plex server my choice, what kind earth loving moron decided this resolves anything? Please revert or ill have to cancel my plex pass.
You are absolutely high coming in here ranting about liberal employees and my body my choice. Crawl back into newsmax and leave your loony politics and hate out of this.
Making assumptions about employees because the feature we all want doesn’t exist yet is absolute insanity.
Man dont go bringing newsmax into this, i like their articles haha but i think his point was that plex had this feature long ago then decided to arbitrarily to change it due to environmental and customer preferences rather than give us the choice. It’s the arbitrary nature that is most often accompanied by liberal mind sets that has the above mentioned ranter so agitated. No need for both of your political assumptions and rhetorics but given the hubris of plex employees nature of telling us what the users what we want rather than asking what we want in and from plex; rants and assumptions will elude!
Gazza, you hit the nail on the head, I can say this feature was on for years, I use to have separate systems in the house just play for background noise, one I’d have playing southpark, another simpsons etc.
People made assumptions about “internet usage” and “falling asleep”, well if you start over from where you last left it, it would play the next episodes, so thats not the issue. Telcos started putting 4 hour caps on their IPTV networks, mostly in the name to “save the environment”, reality is, thats a lie, they use that as an excuse to cut down bandwidth usage on their network, so the “use good cause to put more pennies in our pocket” kinda scenario.
This was a move by some hippie to save something like one one trillionth of a penny on electrical usage and it was some project manager of dev that felt “This is me changing the world or doing my part and those that paid for plex pass have to accept it”.
And Jade…I don’t care buddy, and only liberals/democrats pull this stuff, most have fake education and failed at life so try to apply their beliefs on others.
Here here brother! And before anyone calls me a conservative, I am super old school hippie liberal! The coding should have been an easy yes no before the rest of the coding to stop continuous play but instead it was deemed to be necessary and therefore forced upon all!
Before any new feature just add a yes no feature before the rest. Now they have to code over the old coding to get continuous play which is why they can’t get android devices to do it because of code seeping (where previous coding overules the new lines)
Add me to the list of people who want the time-out removed. I didn’t see any mention of it when I started looking into plex, didn’t see mention of it in the installation docs, and really didn’t see mention of it when I decided to buy a plex pass. Going to start looking into Jellyfin because this is stupid. If you want to make it a premium feature for only plex-pass people, fine. But it is all my media, and I get tired of not being able to watch it when I want to.
As others noted, I also like to fall asleep to TV. If it shuts off before I fall soundly asleep, I wake up and have to start over. Completely stupid to not add this feature. Would be nice if the developers could chime in as to why they can’t remove this simple coding.
best reply ever
Cannot believe this is still going on, my daughter is autistic and will NOT sleep through the night without the golden girls on, weird show to fixate on i know, but since plex cuts off after two hours every night, she wakes up at midnight unless we babysit it and then she might sleep till 3 am. PLEASE LET ME TURN ON CONTINUOUS AUTOPLAY WITHOUT INTERACTION I AM BEGGING YOU
+1 we need this functionality, Plex Monthly User (I like to support the company, I never went Lifetime on purpose)
I hate when we try and try, but wont be heard
This is a good work around
My father has early onset Alzheimer’s and I too would like the ability to have my Plex server auto play for more than 2 hours. My dad gets up at night and just sits there when his shows stop after 2 hours. Please give me the ability to set the maximum number of auto plays up to continuous play.
I don’t know where this auto play feature is implemented but if it is at the server level then it shouldn’t be that big of a deal to enable it.
