Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install

<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

This happened out of nowhere. I’ve seen many post on this but no solution that works. Hopefully we can find one. I have provided the logs.

I’ve already tried removing the codec subfolder

Plex Media Server Logs_2026-05-26_19-23-16.zip (4.1 MB)

According to the logs the codec is failing the checksum, which validates the downloaded file is what is expected. This could be due to it failing to download cleanly.

The first action you should take is to update your server, the current stable release is 1.43.2. You are very far behind. Check again after updating to see if the issue still exists, and then we can continue troubleshooting if not resolved.

I think I solved the problem eventually. After renaming some files and re scanning my library, for some reason plex was unable to download an audio codec I needed (even though my library was fine without it previously and I did not add any new content). I had to manually download the codec and add it to my codec folder. Things seem to normal now.

Great, glad you came right. Just remember to update the server if you haven’t already.
