Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install

Server Version#: 1.32.4.7195
Player Version#: 1.67.2.3705-db506a00

I’m trying to play some media off my rebuilt Plex Media Server and I’m getting the error “Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.”

Just to put it out first that I’ve checked the permissions to the Plex Media Server directory - paying particular attention to the “Codecs” and “Cache/Transcode” directories. I’ve also tried deleting the Codecs directory to have it re-created upon restarting the server/service again with no joy.

Checking the logs:

Following the stated link in the logs provides this…

Any ideas?

DEBUG logs ZIP (or tar.gz of the ‘Logs’ directory) please?

( Not getting codecs is commonly a DNS error )

Hi @ChuckPa - all sorted after nearly a day of repeatidly rebuilding my Plex and trackling from every angle being permissions, transcode or codec issue in the end found a post that mentioned the solution that worked for me…

In the Codecs directory was a folder called ‘EasyAudioEncoder-1847-freebsd-x86_64.tmp’ - I just removed the .tmp from the folder name to ‘EasyAudioEncoder-1847-freebsd-x86_64’ and works perfectly now.

Post that solved it is here https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/plex-codec-issue.98186/
