conversion failed. The transcoder crashed or failed to start up. other forum responses said to delete the library and then recreate the library but how the &^&%$ do you delete the damn library??? Frustrated belond belief!!
I am also getting this error. Snippet from the error log:

I deleted both libraries that are problematic and this didn’t fix the issue.
I have been having the same issue. First noticed evening of Nov 7 2016.
Problem resolved. I finally found the delete library option and deleted all libraries then I recreated the libraries which took awhile but this fixed the problem with regard to being able to play all or least most of my 100+ videos with my TiVo app.
Anybody on the Plex staff have some input on this issue? I have deleted my libraries 3 times and I still get the same error. Is a re-install in order or is there a patch coming?
For those of you who are having this problem, uninstall 1.2.x, head over to videohelp.com and grab 1.1.4 and re-install this version. Something is clearly wrong with the latest 1.2.x releases. After not receiving any word from Plex, I just did this a few seconds ago and now the Plex transcoder works with no issues. I won’t be upgrading anytime soon.
Another Plex user was having this same issue and rolled back to 1.1.4 as well (see MonsterMaxx’s post)
Had this same issue on both my machines. Couldn’t figure out what it was. Wasn’t the library since I just rebuilt it to try and resolve the issue.
Uninstalled it and I stalled older version and poof! Problem went away and it works like a champ now.
I tried uninstall and installing an older version, still didn’t work for me. Has anyone found something else that worked for them?
bkirschner, which version did you use and where did you download it from?
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu just updated finally… and got this problem… fml
I just installed Plex for the first time, verison 1.2.7.2987-1bef33a, and got this issue too. Uninstalled it and installed 1.1.4.2757-24ffd60 instead and the issue is gone.
I find multiple threads about transcoding crashes that seems to be the same problem, for example: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/244518/transcoder-crashes-on-server-release-greater-than-1-1-4-2757
I am running the version 1.3.0.3059 of the server (Plex Pass), and had this same issue on a particular move. I hit analyze on the left bar and that seemed to have fixed the issue for me. Hopefully that helps. Deleting the libraries does not sound like a fun solution.

I just ran into this same error message. Thanks for this suggestion here, worked perfect for me.

This worked for me as well.
I was having this same issue and was on the forums looking for an answer. I didn’t like the idea of recreating my libraries or uninstalling/re-installing.
I found the answer that worked for me stating in this thread:
Which leads to a Microsoft link here:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-hardware/keyset-as-register-is-invalid/55f55465-ef97-44cc-a1ab-842de5c6b7ba
Basically both of these posts lead me to the RSA folder under the following directory: C:\Users%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto. In this directory is a RSA folder that needs to be renamed, and then the machine rebooted. Once I completed these 2 steps, I was back up and running without any more issues.
Hopefully this helps others with the same issue.
Tony
Hi, I had this problem with one movie only. I had external Subtitles in the folder and when I changed it to another subtitle (the one downloaded by the Plex opensubtitles addon) it worked right away.
Just incase this might help anyone. Good Luck!
