Copying server to another server

I managed to do the backup of my server and wanted to try to copy it all to another server. It worked, but after I turned on the new copy, my old server disappeared from my list and I only saw the new one.

When I turned off the new one, and logged onto my old one, its name had changed to the new name also. If I rename the old one to the original name, that one works again. But as soon as I turned on the new one too, my old one disappeared.

How can I make the new one a separate copy, it is obviously conflicting now and overriding the original one.

As you’re not simply migrating the server, you’ll need to make sure your server doesn’t copy the server ID. That information is part of the preferences configured on the system… depending on your OS that’s either part of the Registry (Windows) or the preferences.xml file (Linux).

Thanks. I already tried to remove the REG settings, and made a new account and added the clone server to that new account, which I then shared. But I guess also just setting it up under my original account would also work now that the copied reg settings are not present?

Yes, if it received another set of MachineID numbers, it is now technically a different server.
Just to verify: you removed these three keys from the registry ? plex only showing most recent server - #2 by OttoKerner
