Plex Media Server Logs_2021-05-27_08-38-59.zip (276.8 KB)

I have been trying to fight this problem for a long time. To make it easy for a developer or someone that really knows how to troubleshoot Plex real good I deleted all my logs first. Rebooted my media server computer and then went on to testing. This is what happens in a nutshell. I pick a movie to play. The little Plex circle spins for about 20 seconds and then the movie starts to play. Sound is good, the picture is great. Then it seems at 15-20 minute intervals the Plex spinning circle comes back for about 20 seconds then the movie continues to play. It will do this throughout the entire movie. My older machine, which is a Plex server as well does the same thing and that’s coming from an entirely different computer. I checked over my settings and didn’t change much at all. I just don’t want to change settings for the heck of it. Plex Media Server is running on my new desktop, which is a very fast and efficient computer. Also my entire network is 1Gbps. These are the specs to my computer that the Plex Server is running.

Asus Dark Hero Motherboard
64GB DDR4-3600 memory
AMD 5950x processor
Asus Strix RTX-3090 video card
Western Digital Black 1TB NVMe PCIe 4.0 drive x 2
El Gato 4k 60 PRO capture card

I also uploaded all my server logs in case someone wanted to take a look and try to help me out on resolving this issue. I have never used such a powerful/fast computer and it is a beast of a powerful computer which should be able to handle a single low bitrate movie. If I close down Plex Server and use VLC to play the same video there are no issues or pauses at all. It plays flawlessly. So it is not the movie file itself. The issue is pointing to the Plex Media Server on this one. I really hope someone sees something that stands out in the logs or can point me in the correct direction. I even tried to move the movie to different drives, but there just isn’t anything faster than a Wester Digital Black NVMe PCIe 4.0 drive.
Please help me out, I would be so appreciative if somone was able to get to the bottom of this problem. I am getting real tired of using VLC to play movies when I have an entire Plex Media Server with lifetime!!!

I hope someone more knowledgeable will be able to help you and find something in the logs, but I just wonder, is it possible that your C drive is almost full?

I see that the stream is being transcoded. If the drive where the prepared transcoded chunks is almost full, maybe that’s when Plex freaks out, deletes the old chunk and once it has enough space again, it starts a new transcode from that spot which is when you see the spinning circle every 15-20 minutes?

Just a thought.

Your logs don’t cover enough time. You started playback at around 8:30 and the logs end at 8:38. Can you try to reproduce this and make sure to get the logs after the issue occurs.

All drives in use have plenty of space on them. I made sure of that when I spread my media files around.

I made the logs small so it would be easier to view. I made sure while watching the movie the pause(s) came up a couple of times then copied the logs. I’ll make sure to have more information in the logs and add them to this thread. Thanks.

You said it happens every 15-20 minutes. I was looking for that.

That includes the C drive, right? There’s no smaller C partition with less than 50 GB left? Just want to make sure cause the transcoding cache is on C by default, even if your media files are on different drives.

Also, some other thought, does this machine have some aggressive power saving plan active that could try to put any component to sleep after 15 minutes?

Well, you should call me an idiot now. Why I have overlooked this option baffles me. Anywhooo on the very first setup page (General) the very first option called “SABnzbd Host” the update changed that to 127.0.0.1. That fooled me the whole time! I set it back to the computer name and WHAM, everything worked as normal again.

Is that a Plex setting?

Darn, sorry…getting my programs mixed up now. That is a Sabnzbd setting.
