Server Version#: 1.19.2.2737
Player Version#: 2.17
Today, I got the new Apple TV update with the new interface. I like the new layout. Twice now, the Plex app has crashed on my Apple TV when deleting media from the media server.
I use the DVR function to record OTA broadcasts with a !ac mini and play that media on the TV using an Apple TV (the generation before the 4K model). Twice today, after watching a show and selecting Delete on the media, the app has crashed and sent me back to the app launcher. It doesn’t happen 100% of the time (I did successfully delete 1 show), but it has crashed on 2 out of 3 delete requests.
You aren’t the only one. I am having the same issue. Seems to only happen when you are deleting shows from a series that has only 1 episode in it. When I deleted some from a show that had a bunch in the directory, it didn’t crash until I deleted the last one.
You need to create log files and attach them to this post so the Plex folks will find it. https://t.co/pvfAmYWIP9?amp=1
Not really sure they look at these anyway, but that is what they told me to do on Twitter today when I complained about it.
Good catch that this only happens when deleting the last episode, possibly the last episode in a specific season. I hadn’t figured out that was the difference between success or failures.
I downloaded the logging.zip file, but don’t see anything in it that is a crash dump. I found the entries where it deletes the content and then 7 seconds later when I relaunch Plex to activate the logging function. I won’t bother posting log files with potentially private information in them on an Internet forum. I’ve got the Submit Crash Reports option checked, so theoretically, the crash reports are getting sent in.
Yeah, it is really more of an irritant than anything. I’ve noticed even if I delete the episode from the server computer itself, it will still crash the Apple TV app out to the springboard. Maybe it’s because I left the Apple TV on that shows page when I was doing it. I might try exiting to a higher level first next time.
No, what pisses me off the most about this situation, however, is the fact that their Twitter reps told me to create a report about it on here. They made it sound like someone would read it and get on it. That was 3 weeks ago. Not ONE single response on my thread. Not one single employee, that I can tell, has even given the slightest poop about it. I, honestly, don’t think they care. If they did, they would respond with a simple message like “hmm, interesting, I can see how that would be a problem. we are working on it right now and hope to have it fixed sometime soon.” BUT NOOOOOOOOOOO! We can’t even get that much.
I love Plex. I think it is absolutely wonderful. But when users find an obvious flaw and report on it, it needs to be addressed. They need to actually show some sort of attempt at fixing pretty big bugs like this. Maybe they expect us to not delete anything. Who knows. All I know is the apparent lack of support is appalling. They seem to leave all issues up to the other users on here to solve. That doesn’t fill me with much confidence.
Are you sure? Just wondering because it goes from 2.18.x to 7.0 between those last two posts. Seems odd.
EDIT: Ok, had to figure out how to force the Apple TV app to update. Figured that out and copied the show that was the only one in the series I had out to a different directory, then deleted the one in the Plex app. No more crash. Just back out to the list of shows. Put the file back where I found it and good to go now. Thanks for the heads up on that. I wouldn’t have found it otherwise because I didn’t know or think to look for the change log post you listed.
Thanks for the pointer to the new release notes. Since I have my Apple TV set to auto-update apps, I generally miss the release notes on new versions unless I pay attention to the little blue dot on the program name signaling it was updated since the last launch.
I can confirm that the new release fixes the issue I was encountering where the app would crash when trying to delete the last episode of a TV Show using the advanced player interface. Took a while to get to where I had a last episode to delete from my DVR function. I’ve marked your post as the solution to the issue posed in the original message.
