Create virtual views based on tags (music)

Currently, Plex supports the following views: Folder, Album, Track, Album artist and Genre tags.

It would be immensely helpful if it was possible to have a view based on All artists, including track artists. I have a lot of Various Artists CDs and none of those artists comes up in the Artists view.

There is a Filter feature. But it also doesn’t contain track artists.

Ultimately, I would like to be able to create multiple views based any and a combination various types of tags and other metadata.

This would us to make views of “80’s Rock”, “90’s Techno”, “All artists view” or “UK Pop” and so on.

For some ideas you can look at the excellent Winamp media player. It has something called Smart View that allows you to make virtual views to your media library.

Ultimately, that’s a duplicate of Feature Request: Save Custom Filters

I don’t think so. Custom filters is not the same as virtual views, or more importantly, allowing views based on Track Artist. This is something custom filters cannot do today, no matter if they can be saved or not.

I beg to differ. That’s exactly what it is. You just store the filter set and give it a name. Then you make it available in a menu by the given name.

There, I agree. But this particular aspect (including Track Artists into the full artist list) has been requested multiple times before.
And “Thou shalt not create duplicate feature requests” in here.

If you look at the example of the smart view from Winamp, you can see it is possible to create hierarchies.

Artist -> Album - > Track
Artist -> Genre -> Album - > Track
Genre -> Genre 2 -> Track
Album -> Artist -> Track

and so on.

How is this a duplicate of “being able to save custom filter”

Then I suggest you modify your request above and write that you want to copy Winamp’s behaviour completely.
