I use Plex for my home movies as well as for my collection of Disney animated shorts form the 40’s - 60’s
I have both collections organized in folders. It would be great if I could specify an image to be used in place of the folder icon when browsing by folder in Plex Player (Also to set the default to the folder view)
This has been asked for innumerable times but, like many enhancements that would increase aesthetics for a few and make browsing by folder easier for everyone that browses that way Plex as shown active disinterest in implementing it and it does not seem to fit in Plex’s plans to dumb down the interfaces to fit the lowest common denominator of both users and platform abilities.
So do not expect to see it implemented as it makes sense and in no way adversely impacts those that do not want to use it. That makes it unable to fit in the “let’s give the users as little choice as possible” philosophy that Plex has implemented in most of their latest design choices.
It ain’t coming unless Plex changes their basic poorly chosen design direction and that seems about as likely to happen as Donald Trump choosing a black Jewish transvestite as a running mate.
The analogy would be it was as likely as Leicester City Football Club winning the English Premier League… that now is a very probable outcome in the EPL. Stranger things have happened!!
Plex have said that they are making changes to the UI on PMP on the back of feedback. We are told these will be in Q2. So we will see what that brings and whether they stick to conformity and roll out these changes across all platforms.

Actually I had “Leicester City” second in my table at the start of the season behind Man U. OK so the first place guess was quite bad. Your analogy might be better but it is not as funny.
I have developed a firm distrust of Plex adding features or expanding usefulness in any of their clients or the server. BUT this would actually make one view of Plex prettier and Plex is VERY focused on “pretty” even over "functionality"so I guess the chances are a little better that I initially thought.
Maybe those that want this should focus on how much “prettier” it will make one view of Plex. don’t worry about the added ease of use just emphasize the “pretty” and the Plex designers might pay attention.
I totally agree about the plex direction. It has been worrying since the new app on the roku.
I’m so hoping that LCFC win the title and equally hopeful that Plex have a re-think on their direction. Whilst the former was an impossibility at the start of the season, I have less faith in plex turning things around.
It’s still a great platform, but could be so much more if it worked with its users.
I would love the feature to set custom images to folder icons! I have my videos grouped by studios in a number of folders - seeing the studio brand on the folder icon (instead of a boring black box icon) would be fantastic.
While cleaning up some old suggestions I noticed there’s 2 versions of this suggestion with almost the same amount of votes (26 vs 28).
Given this thread was created later and has less votes (though it’s only 2 votes behind) I’d like to consolidate the 2 suggestions. This is unless there’s actually a significant different I’m missing…
In case we close this thread, the applied votes should be released and can be relocated (e.g. to its sibling suggestion). Apologies for the inconvenience.
