I just started using Plex as a single user on a local network and like it so far, but there is definitely a learning curve !
I have a number of foreign movies that I spent time renaming with their original title and poster. The lock is orange and all is well.
When I add a new movie to the server (a local hard drive), I don’t know what else to besides scanning the library files so the new title can appear in my collection. At that point all the non-American movies revert to the info that Plex found online. Very frustrating.
Am I doing anything wrong, and more so can this avoided by doing something else ? thanks
If the item is not matched yet, the command would be reading ‘Match’ in the menu, instead of ‘Fix Match’.
This is an important distinction, as it is almost the only way to recognize an ‘unmatched’ item. (Apart from the media info XML)
The issue described above should in theory only occur on truly unmatched items, not on those which are already matched (even if the match is wrong).
Trumpy18. Le me try!
thanks for the quick and pertinent response but it doesn’t work for me. I followed the procedure that you described and it goes back to the US name of the movie.
I tried searching the movie with both US and original title and selected the original language but the results only came back as US title, and even clicking on it (thinking it might come as the original) it changes to US title.
Maybe the search cannot get the actual title from IMDB… ? not a life threatening situation but just annoying.
If the user has edited fields and locked them, as the OP says, then none of the advice offered should be relevant. Metadata retrieval should never overwrite a locked field.
“should” being the operative word…
Is the orange “lock” on the title field reverted to grey afterwards?
If it is, there is another issue at work:
Settings - Server - Library - “Empty trash automatically” <-- Disable
Disable automatic and periodic library scans as well.
Only perform manual library scans. And before you do, always make sure that your media storage is operating and is accessible.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome. Well it worked for me…
I don’t know how or why but the library seems stabilized now. Thanks for the help and let’s hope it stays that way.

On another topic, is it possible to export all the metadata that Plex creates when putting together the library when migrating all files to another hard drive without having to start all over again ?
