I’ve spent some time going through videos and manually editing the Title, Sort Title and Originally Available fields. After making sure they were locked, I’ve done rescans since then and noticed that the Title will always revert back to the original after.
The Sort Title remains locked and so does the Original Available (sometimes…)
The only posts on this issue I’ve managed to find are from years ago and I’m not sure if anything came from them.
The problem is Plex keeps blowing your edits when it ‘PREFERS’ the bogus embedded title field of your MP4/M4V files - instead of what should be a good file name.
Reign Plex back in by taking it’s ability to make your life miserable away - demote LMA. Problem solved - we hope.
The ‘Other’ reason it does this is because your file names are so horrible they can’t be matched. Locking fields on ‘Unmatched’ items - doesn’t work - at all.
The best one I can think of is: every time Plex scans your library it tries to match these ‘unmatchable’ items… and blows your edits.
You can stop that:
Fix Match and go to Search Options.
From the Agent Dropdown Menu select ‘Personal Media’.
Select OK and then select what should be the only title in the list - yours.
From that moment on Plex will stop trying to match it and you can edit as you like.
If you have a boat-load of these items:
Put them ALL in an Other Videos Library.
Plex won’t try to match anything in Other Videos type libraries.
I don’t know what these things are, but if you have items like this that would work better in a TV Show environment - with ‘episodes’ that play one after the other - you can do the same thing with ‘Personal Media’.
You still MUST adhere to the rules for naming and structuring, but with some quality hand editing (if Plex isn’t blowing your edits) you can make a nice presentation out of something unexpected.
