I have an extensive media collection of personal rips that i’ve been building for years and use Plex for the manager. I used Kodi/XBMC before plex and used “TheRenamer” as my utility for getting proper names. My scheme that I use and prefer is “Film name (dateReleased MPAA Rating).ext” (ex “A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001 PG-13).mp4”) unfortunately, I have noticed that I have to manually “match” many of these films myself. Which I have done one at a time in the past. After migrating all of my movies to an internal RAID on my server I disconnected the old association and that junked all of the movie associations I had made. So now I have to go through and associate them all over again. I have a large collection and would rather not do this if there is a way of selecting the naming schema that is used.
anyone find a way of doing this? I’ve been tempted to go through the code being used to see about changing the schema recognized myself but would very much rather not do this. Thanks everyone!
It would also be nice to have a way to give priority to the database for the movies and not the file’s tags. All of my movies have “Actors” as me…because of how I tagged the films. (I have to go through and fix that on all of my films now…which will take some time as from what I can tell it has to rebuild the files to remove the tags.
you mean like
“A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) PG-13).mp4”
or
“A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) PG-13.mp4”
I can script these renames just fine…but it seems rather pedantic for something as simple as just allowing which is already supported by Kodi.
“A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001 PG-13).mp4”

@hthighway - That was very helpful for fixing that part of the problem! thank you very much! I thought I had seen a priority setting before but was unable to find anything again. thank you!
Now to have it support the naming convention from my initial post and i’d be ticked pink!
