Custom Transcoder Settings // Mod: presets

I would like to be able to paste in custom ffmpeg commands or have a nice gui to create custom encoding functions and assign that to a preset which shows up in “playback settings” or dvr settings. It would be nice to take advantage of other codecs like h.265 and functions like deinterlace (especially for live tv).

A lot of people may not understand how to use this but it could be added as an advanced option. It would really help out those of us who have hardware acceleration like HVENC.

agree. my use case is for the case of sync-ing to mobile devices. i am on the road a lot and inevitably waiting for recorded content to be processed and then downloaded. Just experimenting with ffmpeg and h/w acceleration and have a set of options that get me what i want in terms of quality and resolution and from the shell, i am getting 2-3 minute transcodes. currently it takes Plex 30 minutes to do the same operation (without h/w accel from the shell it also takes similar amount of time). Once Plex has support for both NVENC and NVDEC would be nice to be able to ensure i can get those fast transcodes in Plex.

Request a more customizeable transcoder.
Especially for audio. Automatically defaulting to AAC is not my prefered choice.
Let us choose AAC/AC3/M4A/OGG/FLAC/etc…
I understand that some may have copyright issues, but there are plenty of other open source options to choose from.
And have more ability to tweek these settings. From channels to bit rates and such.

What works for your setup, won’t work for my setup. I shouldn’t be forced to use the default AAC settings that PLEX feels is right for everyone.

As an Example: We run PMS/PMP on a MAC Mini and output via HDMI. Our ‘Display Device’ is a QAM Transcoder (private cable channel.) For audio it will accept up to 448kbps/48kHz as 2.0 channel or encoded bitstream. The only format we can use for multi-channel audio is AC3 aka DD5.1. The first movies I loaded into PMS were some recent BD rips with there original audio. Most newer titles have primary audio tracks that are too hot for our setup, DTS starting around 960. To play one of those titles today, with audio other than some commentary tracks, PMP reduces output to 2.0 for anything other than AC3. When the track is AC3>448kbps, we hear nothing until we uncheck AC3 pass-thru. Those titles were added first on the thought Plex could make a copy that would suit our needs. Without a custom audio transcode option, ‘Plex Optomize’ is all but useless for us. Handbreak 'till then.

I wish we just had some more customization options to adjust for our own personal setup.

Hi, I’m so grateful for you guys implementing HEVC transcoding into plex server. And now that we will be able to use this wonderful feature, I was wondering if it’s possible you could allow either the server itself or all the clients to allow us to use custom transcoding presets?
For example 4K HDR 10mbps; 1080p HDR 5mbps; 720p HDR 2mbps, 4K SDR 8mbps, 1080p SDR 4mbps and so on…
What I would like to be able to do, is to set all those presets manually (hopefully at the server side, but if it’s not possible, or if easier, then at every client side)
This would be a total game changer and I believe every single user, who actually uses transcoding would be very happy about this option
Thank you!
