Debug Level: what is the default setting?

Hey guys I guess I need your help.

  • On the web app under “Settings>(web app) troubleshooting>debug level” the option “debug level” is set to “inactive”
  • On the app “Plex for Mac” under “Settings>(Plex for mac) troubleshooting>debug level” the option “debug level” is set to “active”

Unfortunately I don’t remember which was the default setting. Maybe I’ve messed around with the settings earlier.

BTW:
What should I chose here? Can I leave the logging “active” on all my clients at all times to collect as many logs as possible in case of some troubles?

I know verbose mode should be general OFF because it saves very detailed informations (cursor movements, mouse clicks and so on) but only for around 2 minutes.

You can leave those settings exactly as they are.

Logging in the web app is disabled by default, because there is no file where it is written to. It just lives in your web browser memory.

OK thanks a lot.
I use the Mac App every now and then for viewing movies. Will the app regularly deleted the logs or are they files increasing over time to several MB or gigabytes? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Log files are “rotated”, which means the 5 most recent logs are kept.
Each app start means a new log file.
There is probably also a maximum size for each log defined, above which the log is also rotated.

Got it! Thank you very much for your help!
Every day you learn something new about Plex. I like that! :plexheart:
