I am a part-time DJ and I have a vast collection (thousands) of music videos and karaoke videos, mostly in MP4 format. I would like to bring these into Plex to view on my TV, however there is no easy way to do so. I read the support article on adding music videos (https://support.plex.tv/articles/205568377-adding-local-artist-and-music-videos/?_ga=2.19847608.1416197074.1567641266-1434465223.1567456722) which is great for many users wanting to combine their music media with videos, but this would require me renaming thousands of files and changing directory structures of all my related media and does not provide me with separate libraries for these media types.
What I think would be a great option is to use the existing “Movies” library and offer an option that would allow Plex to ready my media’s ID3 tags for the metadata and at the very least enable the viewing of the “Artist” and “Title” from the library. This would allow me to create a dedicated “Music Videos” library and a dedicated “Karaoke” library without having to alter my files. If selecting such an option can display the videos grouped by the “artist” tag, that would be ideal! It would almost be like using TV shows, but having the artist be the show and the music videos/karaoke videos being the episodes.
Can someone at Plex kindly look into this and (perhaps) come up with a better, easier way than the currently suggested support article? Is there anyone else out there that thinks this would be a great idea?
