There is light on the horizon, the long night is about to end, that’s enough for me.
Thank you at team plex.
This seems promising. Thanks.
This thread was started August 2019 requesting this exact change.
It’s funny that it is disclosed so casually and as a response to a question from the OP rather than an announcement.
Thank you. We are looking forward to it.
Suspect they’ll announce it once it’s rolled out to more players, it’s just being tested with android / fire devices currently.
Just to confirm, did you see this option elsewhere on (public) Android TV’s rather than Amazon Fire? I may be SOL because my stack is just Roku and Shields. ![]()
Afraid I only have fire sticks, I don’t see the option on the android app on my pixel 7 pro, but it may be limited to android TV I’m not sure
I don’t see it on my Sony Android TV running latest Plex pass
Any Android TV based device (Fire TV, Shield, Sony Android/Google TV, etc.) can have this feature, but not all users will see it at this stage
Any way to get whitelisted for it?
No, there’s no way for select end users to be on the allowlist for it
Is there a target release date?
Not at this stage. We’ll likely be reviewing after Christmas
Is there anywhere for official feedback on this Dave? Or is me saying I’ve been unable to break it on here enough? ![]()
That’s good enough for me, but also very glad to hear it’s been a good experience for you. A lot of time, effort and testing has gone into it, but we can never catch every case ![]()
Perfect! The real test will be once it’s live on Tizen, for some reason most issues i have are with users with Samsung TVs ![]()
Is the plan to eventually have it for all platforms?
I wish I could vote on this issue more. This has been a thorn in my side since first installing Plex, and I can’t imagine anyone running a plex server hasn’t been annoyed by this at least 500 times.
Just curious, will there be any indication that this mechanism was at play in any streams in the dashboard, or will they just show up as normal direct play/stream or transcoding? I expect there won’t be, but it would be cool to see which users/streams are affected and the impact in real time.
Is the server involved in the process? Or is the change in client-side logic?
