Default Views and Custom Library Icons

Hello,

Pretty sure I know the answer to these two questions but the answers are either old or not definitive and I’d like to either forget about them or resolve them. Sorry for rehashing.

  1. Can I customize Library Icons? I have several Movie libraries and customizing the icons for them would be great for when the menu is collapsed. I found a solution (SQLite) but it was pretty old and it didn’t work (not sure if it didn’t work because it was out of date or I did it wrong?).

  2. Can I set a default view for everyone everywhere? I don’t care if people change their views, I just want people’s initial view to be Library not Recommended so if I grant someone access to view something, it’s easy for them to find and watch without having to explain to them they need to navigate off of Recommended to find what they want. Also getting tired of setting my preferred view settings every time I connect from a different device.

As I said, I expect based on my initial searches for the answers to both be no, but it’ll keep nagging at me until I get a definitive answer

Thanks!!

1 - Where are you seeing icons? Plex stopped using library images a long time ago.

2 - No, you cannot set a default view. But there is a library setting to remember the last view used so once a user changes from recommend to library, it will stay that way for next time.

Upper left hand corner. I’m just using the web app via Chrome.

Thanks!

Those are actually text characters and not images. They are hard coded into the Web app.

As you can see though I have several Movie libraries. It would be nice to customize the indicators. There is an old post that shows how you can modify the db files related, but it didn’t work for me and it was really old. I hoped it might have been addressed since then.

Thanks anyway!

The guide you are looking at is from a long time ago when Plex actually did use images for the libraries. That hasn’t been valid for at least 5 years or more.

Currently, there is no way to change those.

Boo! You can clearly see from CinemaParadiso’s image why using the same character is annoying, to say the very least. This is something users have been requesting for a long time, but Plex went backward instead of forward by closing the workaround. This feels like Microsoft deja vu … “F*** the users. They’ll take what we give 'em!”
