Delete preview thumbnails doesn't work

Hi,

Was watching a series and got spoiled because of the preview thumbnails generated by Plex. So, I’d like to get rid of that and read about this option in the advanced settings of each library.

So I went to my TV show library, disabled the feature and clicked the red button to delete the existing thumbnails but, it doesn’t work. I still have thumbnails everywhere. Waited 15 minutes, still…

Am I missing anything ?

thanks

I don’t think you missed anything from the article. Have you tried using top in a terminal to see if there’s some obvious activity? Have you tried counting files that end in bif?

haven’t tried top (don’t know how for now). But i’ve ran a search and found no .bif file at all. Nevertheless I see thumbnails. Thought they may be cached somehow and rebooted the server but this have thumbnails.

top is included with most operating systems. You just type top and look at it. When you’re done you press q to quit.

Plex caches images and you can find them here.

@Volts are there special considerations for removing VPTs? The user had a film spoiled by them, but my cat is a dog.

(Hahah! Not all dogs are good boys, because some are cats.)

@jgauthier72 let’s make sure we’re using the same terminology. What thumbnails are you referring to?

Are you by any chance referring to posters, which appear when navigating the library and choosing what to watch?

Or are you referring to video preview thumbnails, which appear during playback when paused and/or seeking/scrubbing inside the video?

The posters of episodes

I don’t think there’s a trivial way to disable posters from within Plex. Posters are either pulled from a metadata source or generated from the file itself.

One option is to use a different view when browsing, so posters are smaller and less visible. That doesn’t help with Up Next ... screens.

One simple but manual option is to put a blank/black/neutral poster.jpg file alongside each episode file. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220717-local-media-assets-tv-shows/

A clever complicated way is to use Tautulli and hide_episode_spoilers.py to blur posters until an episode has been watched.
