Deleted (Unavailable) Files Not Deleted By Empty Trashcan

Server Version#: 1.13.9.5456
Player Version#: N/A

I’ve followed a few threads but it seems I’m still having issues with this. I’ve deleted files (different encodings) and replaced them with newer ones (different names). Plex recognizes the files are Unavailable but Automatically or Manually Emptying the Trashcan doesn’t get rid of them. I have to turn on “Allow Deletion” and then Manually Get Info on each item and deleting the offending item.

I don’t have any ignoreplex files or anything else.

Please help. Thx!

Edit your library(s),
go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab
look that all folder paths in there are still

  • valid
  • accessible
  • not completely empty

They all look Valid, Accessible, Not Completely Empty I believe.

When you say Not Completely Empty I assume you mean there’s a file in every directory? Does the file have to be Video files? I don’t think that is a problem with my video files but I may need to check all of the Audio directories I guess.

Any other ideas?

I am only talking about the folders which appear on this particular ‘library properties’ page.
Whether there are any empty **sub-**folders below, is not important.

Look out for database corruption:

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.

TYVM. It appears to be corrupted. I am following the instructions in repairing it now…

Step #5 under Windows is wrong. It should be “del” instead of “rm”.

Anyway steps are completed. Do I repeat the options for your steps to start Plex Server, then wait 5 mins and see if I still see corruption/malform?

It doesn’t say rm under Windows. Only under Linux and MacOS

It can’t hurt.

My bad on the directions I must have scrolled too far.

I still see this at the end of the log after a repair:

Nov 02, 2018 11:53:46.025 [3152] DEBUG - Was connected to metadata item 111569, count is now 0.

I’d need to see a bit more of the log.
There are more db files in use, this can easily come from a different db, like the one for Gracenote or the one for the DVR EPG.

If this indeed comes from the main DB file, you may have to resort to one of your backup copies.

But do perform the repair sequence with those as well.

How would I attach the logs and do I need to send all of them? There’s a lot of them in the zip file.

Plex Media Server.log is enough. But please do zip it up before attaching.

Plex Media Server.zip (26.0 KB)

FYI, I’ve attached Plex Media Server.log but I found the errors in Plex Media Scanner.

Then send me this as well, please.

Side note:
Settings - Server - Network - ‘Show Advanced’ - “Enable IPv6 support” <-- disable

IPv6 Support shows disabled for me already?

Plex Media Scanner.zip (128.3 KB)

The timestamp in the scanner log is from before you performed the repair.

Oh so it thinks its good now? I just assumed it rotated the logs and anything in that latest one is a problem.

It looks like everything is well again.

TYVM for everything! I appreciate the help! I’ll keep an eye on it over the next few days.
