Developers - Please fix playlists

Please make the complete playlist accessible when accessing via NVIDIA Shield and other clients. I set up genre-based playlists so I can easily access only certain genres of movies, but this doesn’t really work on the Shield. A playlist might have 400 entries, yet the Shield will only display maybe 40 titles or something of that nature.

This makes the functionality of the playlists basically limited to being able to shuffle. Even when you shuffle, you can only see 25 or so titles. It seems that shuffle probably displays fewer titles than the base playlist.
Please fix this, as it completely defeats the purpose of a playlist.

I have playlists with hundreds of items in them and I can scroll the bottom of all of them on the Shield TV.

I’d check this again as it should show the complete list.

I see what is happening. The entire playlist doesn’t load quickly at all. I can scroll all the way through it and loop back to the top, but the next time I get to the bottom it has more titles. I scroll all the way through and another set of titles is added.

I have added a video to show how this works. I opened the playlist and left it open without messing with anything for five minutes. The video shows what the playlist does when scrolling, even after the playlist has been open for five full minutes.

I have found that it will load the entire playlist if you simply hold the scroll-down button until it loops about 10 times. After looping repeatedly over and over, it will load the entire list and it will stop looping. This is not an adequate solution, but I am simply stating that the entire play WILL load if you loop it many times until it loads the whole thing.

Please fix this.

Is this a remote server? For me using my Shield TV connected to my PC based Plex server it populates the lists very quickly. I do not need to scroll through them multiple times. By holding down the button when I get to the bottom of the list it’s all there.

The server is on the same network… sitting about 10 feet from the Shield. This happens on both of my NVIDIA Shield devices.

Is there some setting that I am missing or something? You can see what I am talking about in the video, so this is clearly a problem.

How do I submit an official request for assistance with this? I have a lifetime subscription to Plex, so I would really like to have this looked into as soon as possible.

You don’t. This is the support. You paying for Plex Pass has no bearing on how quickly something is looked at nor should it. Plex Pass is just a way of early access.

Paying for a product or service SHOULD have a bearing on getting support for the product. If the product is not working as it should, the developer should work to resolve the issue.

In the absence of a resolution from the PLEX team, I have found a workaround for the issue. Clicking a playlist, then scrolling down the playlist will always result in the playlist looping over and over until it finally loads. If, however, you open a playlist, click the arrow on the side of the screen to go to the next playlist, then click the opposite arrow to go back to the playlist that you want, the entire playlist will load.

This is clearly a bug that should be looked at.

@cayars

Have you seen the latest video I posted? Any ideas?

@“MovieFan.Plex”

Can you help get a developer to look at this issue, please?

Let me see if I can reproduce. A quick guess is that it’s just a slow loading of the playlist. The one in your video has 400+ movies.

I did see the video and can’t reproduce it. I’m going to try and build one about your size and try again.

Right now I’ve got playlists of 20-40 movies and then some over 2K but all work find for me as far as I know. More testing on my side.

BTW, love the video because that does clearly show the problem on your system!

I tried opening the playlist and leaving it for five full minutes before moving down the list and it ended at the same exact location. I don’t get it at all.

Ok, I’m able to reproduce. Will let the devs know.

Thank you very much!

Any word on a fix yet?

Sorry, no update yet. It’ still on their to-do list.
