AutoLogon is not a solution, it is a workaround. Having a logged on user can prevent some updates from running entirely. Additionally, some AutoLogon methods put your password into the registry in plain text.
+1 on running as a service as a native feature. I’ve wanted this for a very long time.
I said autologon in a solution somewhere? Nope!
But NSSM is a solution.
You guys may also wanna read up on how to upvote a feature u want.
+1 means nothing.
I am SHOCKED that plex doesn’t run as a service out of the box, or a least offer the option. This is a real deal breaker. It is such an obvious feature for something called a “media server”.
NSSM as a recommendation is ludicrous. There are known malware infected versions of NSSM.
“PMS as a service” shows how it isn’t even difficult to pull this off…
This is actually a big deal for me. I have run Plex as a service but it will not hardware decode when run as a service.
Can we please get a native Plex solution for this?
To my understanding, a native Plex solution would not solve the hardware acceleration issue when running Plex as a service. That’s a limitation of Windows at the moment.
Agreed. I’ve been running NSSM to enable my game servers and teamspeak server to run as a service. It works great, and as soon as I have time, I’ll setup Plex with NSSM too. : - )
P.S. I agree, Plex should be able to run as a service natively, but until then, I’ll keep using NSSM for all of my “Run X as a service” needs.
