Plex as a service option

please add the ability to within plex without 3rd party apps to add plex media server as a service given that the whole reason to run this software is so that you don’t need to login every time you reboot or update your server …

also just spent like 3 days trying to make arcade work … it turns out that my plex as a service app is what’s prevented it working

sort it out … been a plex user / subscriber for years … this feature should be part of the server side already.

I nevrr hsve to login to my own server when I am within ny own LAN.
Are you saying that you do?

yes windows will run plex server at login but not as a service … so to run it you have to login…or autologin… i mean the plex server should run as a windows service … is using 3rd party software prevents certain parts of plex from working such as say the plex arcade they need to fix it (soon)

Ok, you’re logging in to Windows not Plex.
I just set Windows to not require a password but that PC is only used for Plex.
I doubt Plex will change anything.

That doesn’t seem right. You have a Windows problem and you’re giving Plex an ultimatum?

Have you ttied using Microsoft’s Autologon Tool?

  1. I and most people responding to you in this forum are NOT Plex employees. We are Plex users like yourself.

  2. You added your post to a thread where the OP was talking about Windows issues related to logon. Your question is unrelated.

  3. If you want help you should start your own thread and supply the info needed. Plex Server version is a good start.

  4. Try to be polite. We are volunteering to help. We don’t have to.

Good luck.

I am sorry. Thank you for your support.

just to clarify my issue is not with windows … it is with plex … i wish to run a plex server that runs as a service when windows starts (not autologin) as the software name states this supposed to be run as a server i dont want to have to intervene between windows updates driver installs or power failure and i dont want to use auto login as it is a security risk to the system … i have used tools to do just that in the past and everything was fine … until plex arcade …please just add the option from within plex or at the install to enable it as a windows service

I also run PMS as a Service on my machine.

The base issue here is the same as we have with HW Transcoding. The context that the server runs in is not able to access the video card in Windows. This was a change MS made along the line in Windows 10 a few years ago. I don’t have any insider info, but I don’t think there is a ton that Plex can do about this from their perspective (I could be wrong obviously).

hw transcoding been fine for me using plex as a service … i also have live tv running all of plex has been fine … i tried to use plex arcade and had no end of problems (i know its still in beta) but the cause was the fact i used a tool to run plex as a service …

That would be news to me if HW Transcoding worked now, last time I tried it I had frequent crashes and it wouldn’t fully work. IIRC - it would decode HW, but encoding didn’t work. Would be happy to be wrong though in this case.

I ran Plex as a service for a while using a tool that one of the members here developed, but I stopped using that for reasons I can no longer recall.

I had some requirements on my end that a quick Google search solved. I wanted my Windows 10 PC to automatically reboot daily at some point in the AM where I was pretty sure nobody would be watching (4:30am here). With that, came the requirement for it to auto-log me in upon restart so that Plex would be up and running without issue.

I did this years ago, and can’t remember the processes I used but the answers are out there.

The answer is above and here.
Microsoft has an Autologon Tool.
