Device settings for supported/primary audio

One of the issues I have is when playing back media through my TV/Receiver. It does not support compressed sound - it’s optical, which is uncompressed audio only. That means every movie or TV show that is TrueHD will not playback and transcoding is too cpu intensive/not necessary because a proper audio stream is already there - it just won’t use it by default.

Most have DD 5.1 or DTS 5.1, which is fine to have to select once for a movie, but for TV shows, it means each and every one of the episodes has to be pre-selected for sound that is not TrueHD 5.1 if that is the primary audio stream.

I would like to see configuration settings on the player/device side allow the user to specify what audio formats are supported so I can “blanket policy” my Plex on any given device to automatically select the supported stream.

Please add the features to the Settings > Audio menu if you can? It’d go a long way toward flawless playback.

Thanks for reading.

See this feature request. It discusses setting default audio formats on a per-client basis. It may cover the situation you describe.
