I don’t know if this would be a Plex Media Server setting, or a Plex Media Center setting, but I think it’d be nice if we could configure a hierarchical preference for the default audio format to use / number of audio channels in a stream to prefer when playing media.
I have no shortage of movies that I’ve muxed with multiple combinations of AC3 / DTS / DTS-HD / TrueHD tracks. Ideally, I’d like something that lets me say (until the PMC properly supports high-resolution audio streams) first play DTS, failing that AC3, failing that DTS-HD, failing that TrueHD, and so on and so forth.
Alongside this feature, it would be nice if I could tell PMC to prefer 5.1 / 6.1 / 7.1 tracks over 2.0 tracks. Occasionally I run across media where I screwed up and put a 2.0 commentary track as the default track. When that happens, my only options are to manually change the audio stream in Plex, or remux the file–inconveniences which I would love to see nullified by future iterations of Plex.
I agree completely. Right now I encode with a stereo and a 5.1 track but you have to manually pick the 5.1 track. Some sort of channel priority would be ideal in the clients.
