My NVIDIA Shield can be a real pain in the butt sometimes with 4K material. It may be the best, but it’s by no means perfect.

I run PMS on the shield itself. Naturally you’d think the connection speed would be sufficient, since it’s locally hosted on itself. However I get an occasional freeze-up though saying the connection speed is insufficient - not sure how that’s possible but it happens. Regardless though when it does happen I’m forced to either fiddle with it or use the VLC Player app and browse to the movie. Very, very annoying.

My 4K Atmos/DTSX files are the original disk MKV backups. I don’t like to downcode original content and can afford the space since I don’t have much content to begin with. Maybe the 60GB files are just too big for PLEX to handle, but VLC handles them great.

Also - just know if you’re hosting PMS on the shield itself that it will NOT transcode 4K HDR content for remote users or watching at lower resolutions. You’ll have to have a second copy on your PLEX, either in a stream-friendly library or as a second copy sharing the metadata.
