Its seems with teh latest version they want you to use their own Media asset, But it’s broken…
First off when i reinstalled Windows on a new system replaced my hardware and reinstalled media server I noticed not all my moves are there. and some were like my James Bond fils WERE ALL BUNDLED IN A CASINO ROYALE FILE SO I HAD TO SPLIT THEM APART AND MISMATCH THEM! Not to mention the newer PMS seems to be slower than molasses becasue I try to go to fix metadata it takes it forever or won’t launch up at all to give me anythign, not to mention I go down the list half the movies that are mismatched I look for the correct on it isn’;t there! I can’t even search for it! PLEX PLEASE FIX YOUR SERVER!
I’d much rather use TMDB and TVDB than your own metadata searcher it’s just far too buggy right now…
And I really, really, really wish there was a way to back up the server so you don’t have to rescan the library and fixing it yourself… I found something about doing it in regedit but that sure as hell didn’t work
ohhh all my files are named properly, I just haven’t had an issue like this ever before. i.e. I have sequels to movies too Movie Title-Year Plex bakc then no issue Plex now… OH ITS HAS A SIMULAR NAME LETS BUNDLE IT ALL INTO ONE MOVIE!
Not to mention clicking Match is much slower takes me a few tries just to get the match pop up to show
Can you please provide a list (or screenshot) of the exact naming of some of your james bond files and the directory structure so I can try to reproduce issue
I got it read finally after unmatching and rematching the metadata within plex but it literally read the James Bond Collection folder as one file and grouped up everything into one single Casino Royale movie.
And I’ll bet you didn’t renew your library and reinstalled windows after upgrading your PC
I’m also noticing that it’s not reading some of my movies are not reading them properly i had to correct blade runner when it first saw it it was right then it incorrectly corrected itself and changed it to The Behind the scenes of Blade Runner so I had to change that back manually.
I don’t think I’ve had this much of an issue with Plex before especially with a new server the past versions of plex never gave me these kinds of issues before. If i didn’t upgrade and didn’t reinstall it’d be fine but a fresh new install of PMS is giving me a headache. I already spent 2 whole days fixing up some of my libraries and am still looking for any other issues with the movie titles TV shows are fine but Movies atm are my issue
The example file naming looks fine.
The movie directory naming looks fine.
Assuming the Plex Library points to “Movies”, nesting the Bond movies into “The James Bond Collection” subdirectory is likely the issue. Arbitrary sub-nesting isn’t supported or recommended and often causes problems.
Either pull them out to the “Movies” top level and delete the “The James Bond Collection” folder, OR, move “The James Bond Collection” out from inside “Movies”, and add it to the Plex Library, like @JuiceWSA’s example above.
@BigWheel, maybe it would be helpful to be more explicit about this on the support docs?
As Volts indicated, your subdirectory is likely the source of the issue. As far as Plex is concerned, you have 27 copies of whatever James Bond movie it matched first.
Well Server just had an update and now it’s fixed, it’s seeing all the Bond movies now and whatever other movies like Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2477 it is seeing now at first it literally grouped it or whatever had a similar name to it with even though i.e. The Equalizer (2014) and Equalizer 2 (2018) when it scans it would see them then out of no where one of the two titles goes missing I’m looking for it and then find out Plex has Grouped it thus making me Split the movie and eith clicking “Unmatch” or “Fix Match” in the submenu after chekcign which file is which.
Also, I’ve noticed now to If you have your movies with sequels LIke what you were just telling me to take My James bond movies out of the folder named James Bond Collection if you have a Folder and name it Collection Plex will now add it to a Collection which it never did before. Now my issue wasn’t with Collection it didn’t group it into a collection it just found one Bond film and decided to pin all the films path to one movie, that was what the headache was, So I don’t think changing the file path would have done much in that case.
Actually, it’s not. If you are using the new Plex Movie agent, there is an advanced setting “Minimum automatic collection size”. With that enabled, Plex will automatically create collections from the metadata we have. It has nothing to do with the folder. If you’d like to test this, add a random movie into your James Bond folder and it won’t be added to your James Bond collection.
Let me show you what I mena or give you an idea
to see the file path for Rocky?
now take that file instead of adding the rest of the Rocky films to a collection it takes all 6 of the Rocky Films and paths them in below the first thinking “OH! It says Rocky It must be the same movie SO I’m just gonna group them all in!”
so where it would say the path below it would be like this in the Media Info box:
And that would just read it as the first Rocky film then I have to go through the process of clicking “Split Apart” on them and manually finding the right movie.
Now It’s not doing it now after PMS just had an update. it’s fine now
It has nothing to do with your folder. It’s just a coincidence that your folder name matches the name that Plex is using.
When the movies are matched, there is collection tag that is associated with the movie. So in your example. Plex first sees the original Rocky movie. It sees the collection info Plex has “Rocky Collection”. Depending on that setting I mentioned before, if you have enough movies that have the same “Rocky Collection” associated with it, they automatically get added to a “Rocky Collection”, otherwise they won’t.
Like I said, you can test this by sticking a random movie in that folder. It won’t get added to the collection. You can also test this my renaming the folder to something else. They will still use “Rocky Collection”. Or move some of those movies out to the parent folder or another folder. It won’t matter, they will still get added to “Rocky Collection”.
And it is ok to group your movie folders into another folder like you have. I’ve done the same. And to demonstrate my point above.
I have the Rocky and Creed movies all in 1 folder named “Rocky”. Plex automatically created a “Rocky Collection” for the 6 Rocky movies and a “Creed Collection” for the 2 Creed movies.
What I find odd is movies I don’t have even grouped in a collections folder PLex ads it to a Collection even though it’s the only one like ShaZam! it automatically made up a Shazam Collection and I don’t even have TMDB Collection ticked on either.
Like I know Shazam is getting another movie but to make up a collections folder for a movie that isn’t out yet or for quite a while seems odd to me
If you see that, then you are using the old Plex agent. If that truly is off, you shouldn’t get any auto generated collections. Can you edit your library and confirm the agent you are using?
