Direct Play fails after a certain amount of time, falls back to direct stream and/or fails completely

Playing 4K files, having issues with Direct Play starting and can sometime play for a while (>1hr sometimes, <5min sometimes) and then the video will buffer, see a huge huge spike on the bandwidth then fall back to Direct Stream, then most of the time fail completely soon after.

PC Server → NightHawk D7000 router → 2019 Shield Pro → Yamaha RX-6VA Receiver → Samsung 8 Series TV

I’ve got the setup so I can direct stream my 4K movie collection in 7.1.

Normally I use over wifi but hooked up a Cat 6a cable to ensure no network issues.

Can play the same files on two of my LG TV app with direct play on wifi with no issue.

Anyone else with similar issues? Only have had a shield for less than 2 months so don’t have history of when the problem arose.

Side loaded Plex on Kodi, no issues as described above… Plays perfectly with passthrough.

Revising that, doesn’t do it perfectly.
It has micro drops where you can see the receiver loses at least the audio package. But when it comes back about after 1 or 2 seconds, it continues to direct play.
Whereas the actual android app would then go to direct stream and then fail shortly after. Transcode reason on the app is 'Direct Play was attempted but failed, fallen back to transcoding".
