Direct-play for hevc broken in Android TV 8/15 update

I started having problems streaming my shows today, found that instead of using direct-play everything hevc is now transcoding. I manually installed the previous release from the apk and direct-play works again, so I am pretty sure something in the latest update broke direct-play for hevc encoded video.

Server Version#: 1.40.5.8854
Player Version#: Plex for Android 10.19.4

You’ll probably want to get a sample and logs for this. I tried playing back several HEVC items on my server and only one out of like seven played back transcoded, and I’m not sure that wasn’t because of the audio on that case.
