Fire HD 10th, 11th and 12th Generation could Direct-Play HEVC 10bit media but now transcodes to H264

I have a bunch of Fire HD’s (10th, 11th and 12th Gens) that for the last 2 years My Plex server would transcode HEVC 10bit media to H264. I noticed a month or so ago that they now all Direct-Play the same HEVC 10bit media and none of my Fire HD’s have had any software updates during this time frame. Chrome in late September finally started to support HEVC natively in it’s browser so does anyone know when Plex updated the server software to support my Fire HD’s HEVC with direct-play?

Just an update on my topic as it seems one of the latest Plex Server updates has once again caused My Server to transcode all HEVC 10bit media to H264 for all my Fire HD’s. It lasted a good couple of months that all my Fire HD’s were direct playing HEVC 10bit but I guess I had my hopes up and now longer do they. Anyone from Plex care to comment on why it was removed with one the latest Plex Server updates?

thanks

Rick

I am interested if the devs had any updates to this. I know my Fire HD 10 can play 10 bit 1080p HEVC fine as I can play files using VLC Media Player absolutely fine - as soon as I hit the same files from Plex - it tries to transcode them every time. It’s a tad annoying as I can see the tablet is capable of direct playing the files!

Still no solution, keeping this thread open till then.

Same deal. Has there been any official response to this yet?

None and the issue is still prevalent for Fire HD devices.

I’m still struggling with this, did anyone find a workaround? We’re almost a year down the road
