Direct play(vizio tv) uploading 20gb of data for a 1gb video file

I been noticing when my friend watches a tv show that does direct play on his Vizio smart tv. It uses a whole lot of bandwidth. It should be only using 3.8-4.5mbit but it’s maxing out my upload 5.2 MByte/sec. So I end up uploading around 15-20gb for a show that is only 1.3gb size. Is this normal? If it’s transcoding, the bandwidth is normal at whatever rate it’s set at. I have tested with couple of clients that does direct play and the bandwidth is normal.

Determine the ‘real’ bitrate of this file.

I don’t think the Vizio might produce more traffic volume than the file is in size.

But this particular file might need a higher ‘peak’ bandwidth, when played on the Vizio - simply because the Vizio has not a very big network receive buffer.

requiredBandwidths="4578,4073,3689,3689,3689,3689,3689,3689
requiredBandwidths=“3938,3433,3051,3051,3051,3051,3051,3051”

Seem like every other client plays the file at normal bandwidth at around 3.8-4.5 mbit but the Vizio does it at 42 mbit the whole show(40mins) while the client is set to original quality 3.8 mbit. I use DU meter to measure my upload speeds.

I will have to look more into this network receive buffer. This only happens with direct play. Transcoding, it’s within the range of whatever quality it’s set to.
