Depending on what kind of device are connected directly to the Shield, it can sometimes switch to transcoding the audio.
At least the video is forwarded unchanged.
Hold on. Amsterdam failed again. The change I made was to uncheck the global disable of rebinding.
So as noted, Amsterdam took a minute to load but shows this:

This is turning into rocket science. heheh
I just disabled the global setting again and will report back in a bit.
Your log files also show library scanning activity during your tests.
Of course this will lead to a slower server performance when trying to play back.
So wait for all library scanning to finish, for a realistic test.
(and don’t tell the server to scan the libraries periodically every few minutes!)
There is a difference between TrueHD and DTS HD-MA. If one is repeatedly transcoded, while the other is direct playable, you should investigate the abilities of the devices you have connected to the Shield.
Thanks. The only thing connected to the Shield is the HDMI from the receiver. That’s it. It’s a Yamaha Aventage RX-A740 so it should be more than capable.
Can anyone explain why this setting only seems to impact the Shield? Why, if it’s a network issue, would it not impact Plex running on my PC, for example? I’m just curious.
Chuck, is that screen from OPNSense? I’m not seeing it where the DNS Rebinding area is. I don’t see a DNS Resolver area either. Looking…
On OPNsense 22.7.10_2
Services > Unbound > Advanced
Add plex.direct to the Private Domains.
My version seems slightly different. iI don’t have a Private Domains under Unbound>Advanced, but there is one under Services>Unbound>Advanced>Blocklist. Might this be the same thing?
Yes.
If/when you update to the latest version it will then be under advanced.
Sorry, last question on this piece. I assume I have to check the small Enable box at the top for this to apply? Still entirely confused on why this only seems to impact files played on my Shield and nowhere else. Very strange to me, but the world of Plex is very complex at times.
That is probably why they moved it to Advanced to be less confusing. Check the box, hit apply and download, then restart Unbound.
I have noticed lately that more software is defaulting to being strict with DNS Rebinding protection.
