When plex attempts to transcode while using the new player it says it losses connection with the server, here are the logs:

It looks like to me the new player is using plex.direct where as the old use a direct local ip connection.

Same here…new just on a few shows, seemingly random…can repeat everytime with the same file.

Yes Old Player works but want to get Devs attention so they fix whatever bug is breaking the new one.

FYI they are both ExoPlayer. The old one just says ExoPlayer V2 and the new one just has ExoPlayer. The new one is most likely a new version of the ExoPlayer but they just opted to not put the version or it’s still V2 but they decided to take that out and they are just making updates to it (I have no idea about the behind the scenes on that).

Point being, the ExoPlayer is used in either case.

But like @kqmaverick said, the devs need to be aware of bugs so they can be fixed. Just going back to the old player isn’t the best option as there is a [good] possibility that Plex will eventually remove support of the old player.

I’m getting this too. My foolish ass wiped out my whole Server db because I was convinced it was my server’s fault

I can’t find this in the Android client settings on my phone, am I missing something? One of my two Shield devices is having this problem and my Pixel 3 phone is too. :confused:

I have some news.

  1. The problem is known.
  2. They have the correction.
  3. It is going into PMS (main) first
  4. It will then come to the Shield.
  5. Estimate forthcoming.

Yes adding plex.direct to DNS rebind whitelist fixed the transcode, now if the ShieldTV tube device locking up/crashing when playing 4k video could be corrected my ShieldTV would be perfect.

I have not seen a fix for the Transcode issue from Plex yet but the Plex.direct entry in my whitelist is working great. After you are talking about the 4K playback issue that was fixed in the Android Beta.

Hello,

This is also happening for me when I transcode any video file to Android or when I direct play and the audio is TrueHD.

The same failing video files play OK if I change audio to AC3 and direct play the video.

I’ve also been encountering this issue on an nvidia shield using latest versions of the client and server (server is running on ubuntu).

My client logs have ffmpeg errors.
